Well, I survived the week. Now let's see if I survive September.
More importantly, Mother survived the week - even though she spent a good portion of it going back and forth to the hospital to remedy kidney stones.
Still not remedied, but she's in less pain at least, and coherent. So, yay team.
I'm avoiding the news and politics - because I've no bandwidth left for it.
September Meme
1. How important is it to you that people remember, spell, and pronounce your name correctly? Why?
I don't care. It's never been important to me. It can get annoying when they persist in calling me by the wrong version of my name. I have one of those names that kind of runs the entire gender spectrum - there's the ultra feminine version that gives me hives, and the more non-gender specific version that I prefer.
But, I really don't care that much. I can't remember or pronounce names. I have an audio/visual dyslexia/discalcia, which makes it difficult for my brain to remember names, or reproduce the correct pronunciation. So if I don't see the name a lot, use it a lot, and work really hard with the pronunciation - I'll have issues. Because of my own difficulty with names, I'm rather compassionate towards those who can't do it either.
2. Are you a hugger or a non-hugger? Why?
Non-hugger. I'm about 6 foot. Most of my friends and co-workers come to my chest. To hug someone, I have to squat or bend in half. It's awkward. Also, I am sensitive about personal space. I like hugs. But I'm uncomfortable giving and receiving them without there being a good reason to do so.
It's probably a good thing - since I've had maybe two hugs this year - all from Wales.
3. Are you more likely to avoid conflict or engage in it head-on? Why?
Depends. I will engage head-on, if I feel I need to. But I don't like it. (I'm not passive aggressive. If I'm pissed with you - you'll know it pretty quickly. And I like to clear the air. I take after my mother in this regard, she hated letting anyone go to bed angry. She felt the need to work it out. I've had to curtail this impulse over time - because it doesn't always work well in the work place - there's a lot of passive aggressive folks in the work place. You confront them or try to work it out with them - and it's not going to end well for you. Much better to back off and wait until it goes away.)
4. What was the most recent compliment you received and savored?
How I handled a contract at work - although not sure savoring it was the right word.
5. In what situations are you most likely to procrastinate?
When I can't figure out what to do. Cleaning. And things that lack a sense of urgency or don't have a deadline.
6. How often do you interrupt others while they are talking?
Far more than I should. There's a reason I prefer written correspondence.
7. What’s your most and least preferred forms of exercise? Explain.
Most preferred? Walking (and swimming, which I can't do because I live in NYC), but I adore walking. It's kind of obvious why.
Least preferred? Anything with weights, or floor exercises - because I find them painfully dull. And I feel like crap afterwards. I honestly don't see the point.
And I got tired of the meme and decided to quit here. I may or may not return to it at another point.
Smart Bitches advertised yet another book sale on Amazon - so I bought more books for a $1 or .99 cents that I don't need and will probably forget that I own before getting around to reading them. Oh well, at least they aren't popular best sellers that folks have heard of. One appears to be non-traditionally published, since no audio-book. It's a book about Indian billionaire and an Indian law firm, with a tough heroine. The review on Amazon sold it to me. It was $1.99. I bought three books, and spent maybe $5? I rarely buy any books or music for full price any longer. I have a music subscription via Apple with unlimited downloads. (I refuse to do Spotify).
Music
Just to show you how wildly eclectic my music taste is...(it's the most eclectic among both friends and family. Most people like one or two genres, I like all of them. I've not found anyone who has my range of taste in anything. In fact when folks ask what my taste in music or television or film or books is - I ask for theirs, because it's easier. Otherwise we'd be here all year long.

Date: 2022-09-03 05:31 am (UTC)I am not as tall as you but I share your feelings on the hugging. There's very select people I'm comfortable hugging.
When I can't figure out what to do.
Same.
