I'm debating either re-watching sections of "Elvis" or another episode of Hacks, or trying The Hobbit - The Fight of the Five Armies. I think one of the three is far too long, and I got to get into bed by 10ish. I get up early tomorrow - and this is going to be a difficult, and very very busy work week, with laundry crammed in there somewhere.

Some interesting writing questions that seem to be fanfic writing related. (I've written everything. Why? I am a professional writer - it is what I do.) I'm not answering all of them or reposting all of them - some of them are just about writing fanfiction.

1. Share one of your strengths.

Dialogue. I'm a master when it comes to dialogue. Comes from reading a lot of plays, also an ear for conversations. I listen to strangers talking on subways, trains, workplaces, etc.

2. Share one of your weaknesses.

Struggle with fight scenes. I also hate exposition.

3. Is writing your passion or just a fun hobby?

Passion. Also vocation. I care more about it than anything else, apparently.

4. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Just start writing and see what happens, forget the rest.

5. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Make an Outline.

6. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?

Doing Time on Planet Earth - published book. Original fiction.

7. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

Both.

8. Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?

Tried. I'm not good with tools. I tend to forget about them.

9. Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?

Not that I'm aware of. If so, it's inside me.

10. Describe your perfect writing conditions.

I can write anywhere. I just can't be stressed out, overly self-conscious, or under pressure.

11. Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?

Critical and ruthless.

12. How do you feel about collaborations?

Problematic.

13. Do you accept prompts?

No. I'm not good at writing on demand - plus it reminds me of work or worse school.

14. How do you feel about smut?

Ambivalent.

15. Would you ever kill off a canon character?

Well, I killed off several in my first fanfic - Miss Edith's Revenge. So..

16. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?

Ignore them. They are part of being a writer, artist, performer - they come with the territory. Best to just ignore them. Unless they are constructive, then take the constructive criticism and apply it if it suits. Otherwise, just ignore. It's always best to ignore rude people - they tend to go away when you do.

Books

Borrowed another Kindle Unlimited book - this one about a man who turns into a tiger, the search for a man with a missing finger, a boy, and a dancehall girl who wants to be a doctor - awash in Chinese Folk lore and mythology. And no, I don't remember the name of it. I think the writer is Yangzee Zoo.

Wales is reading a lot of African American fiction, her latest is Rattlebone, which is about various people's interlocking stories in Kansas City. I'm reading a lot of Asian fantasy stories and romances. I'm on an Asian kick. (And by the way, outside of the mythology, there's not a lot of cultural differences, I see mostly similarities in the story structure.)

Lesbian stories don't do a lot for me, at the moment, which is odd, since I have a lesbian relationship (two actually) in the novel I'm writing - although they aren't the central relationships. This is weird romance novel that I'm currently working on - perhaps too weird to ever get published? It has bisexual, lesbian, homosexual, and straight characters. Along with a BSDM relationship with a priest in it (although I don't ever show it, just imply that it happened). I don't know what I'm talking about - except maybe that we make too big a deal out of sexual orientation and relationships, and people should be allowed to be intimate and love whomever they choose to love without any interference? I think people make too big a deal out of sex. And due to that - repression, we have a lot of sexual violence and trauma, because it has to come out somehow. If we just all relaxed ...it wouldn't be an issue.

Been having issues focusing lately. And I've noticed that if I have too much sugar - I get very wired, and then crash - or fall asleep. It's odd.
Should I be concerned, hard to know.

Doing more meditation lately - which has helped me focus better, and gotten rid of some of the negative thought loops in my head. Also is helping with grief.

Mother's kidney stone seems to have passed. She's not in pain any longer.
There's no nausea (which I can't spell to save my life - I keep having to use spell check). And she figures it must have passed when she was in pain, on pain killers and then was urinating constantly - the system flushed itself out. God only knows. She doesn't think she needs to go back to the doctor again to check, but will if any other issues present themselves. So, whew?
