More of the September Meme, I did about six of the questions at the beginning of the month, now I'm doing another group, and skipping the questions I don't like. I do this with memes...I make my own rules.
9. As you fall asleep, do you prefer to be flat on your back, curled on your side, or on your stomach? What position are you in when you wake up?
Side. With a pillow between my knees and legs to help align my back. It's actually the best position for backs and breathing.
Waking varies - sometimes flat on the back (despite my best intentions and all that), sometimes side.
10. What’s your preference: cruise ship, powerboat, sailboat, rowboat, canoe, kayak, or inner tube?
Sail boat. Preferably a medium size to full yacht size. Actually I want a yacht/sail boat.
[I deliberately skipped several dumb questions in there.]
14. Growing up, for which holidays did your family decorate the house?
Christmas...
And that was about it. Mother did make attempts at Thanksgiving and Halloween, also Easter...but they were...attempts.
15. Have you ever served on jury duty? If so, what was the case about? If not, would you like to be on a jury in the future?
Yes. They torture juries in NY. Also I was an alternate. Me and the other alternate entertained ourselves by figuring out the case in another courtroom, secluded while the jury deliberated. (I'm a critical thinker and a lawyer - so they kept me from being a voting member of the jury. Which in of itself should give you pause.) The case was dumb. Some guy was suing the city for a disability he got crossing an intersection - and ran into something or other. The only thing I remember about it - is he said he couldn't walk properly and was still suffering from an injury to his leg, and I watched him take the stairs from the fifth floor on a hot day, when the elevator was delayed. The jury (being made up of nitwits) found for the plaintiff (the guy suing the city) because they liked the plaintiff attorney's presentation (aka snow job) better than the defendant's counsel (who frankly sucked at presenting his case). It was all about the presentation, who was the most charming, and basically the dog and pony show. After that my respect for our justice system and juries became non-existent.
16. What's worse: laundry or dishes?
Laundry. Dishes are easy. And I have a hard water, no dishwasher, and do them every day. Laundry requires lugging it to the basement, praying no one is down there, throwing it in the washers, going back up, then going down again and throwing it in the dryers, going back up, then down again. It's stressful. It is easier than it used to be though. I used to have to lug it down three flights of steps, a stoop, down two blocks to a laundry mat, and pray no one was doing it - or give it a laundress to do the portion that wasn't "delicates" or air dry only, which I have to do myself.
17. Do you have a favourite movie soundtrack?
Too many to count. I like Footloose, Pretty in Pink has the best movie soundtrack - the soundtrack is far better than the film, Hunger Games also has a good movie soundtrack.
18. If you were offered free cosmetic surgery by the best plastic surgeons in the world, would you take it?
No. I don't go under knives or anesthesia unless it's life or death.
19. If you could rid the world of one evil, which one would it be?
Fascism and racist fascists. (Basically Trump and everyone who follows and/or supports him.)
I suppose ridding it of "evil marketing people" is overkill?
20. What is the difference between knowing a lot of facts about a person and knowing someone personally?
Well, knowing a celebrity or someone without them knowing you at all - unlevel playing field, also facts are kind of elusive when they come to people. It depends on perception, and they change depending on context.
Plus what you know may come from other people's perceptions...which, well, it's like the difference between watching a movie and reading a review of it? Or reading a book, and having someone give you a synopsis. Or listening to a song, or having someone tell you about the song - providing the lyrics but no music. Or music but no lyrics.
21. What’s more important, a healthy mind or a healthy body? Why?
Both. It can't be one or the other. You need both. And having watched my father's mental capacity diminish - his body failed later, I'd say you can't have one without the other. Your gut affects your brain. Your brain affects your legs, your breathing. It's all connected.
This is clearly a question from someone who has never had major health issues.
22. What’s one thing you know for sure?
I don't really know anything for certain - except it's all temporary except death.
23. When was the last time you listened to the sound of your own breathing?
24. Do you ask enough questions or do you settle for what you know?
I ask questions about everything. To the point of driving people crazy.
25. An app mysteriously appears on your phone that does something amazing. What does it do?
Gives me the power to teleport?
26. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
Probably in my 80s...although it may be earlier than that. I keep telling everyone I'm 55 - mainly so, I can remember that I'm 55. At a certain point I start to lose track..
27. How have you recently kept yourself in check?
Yes. I wanted to kill my manager today. Luckily she was working remotely. But I did restrain myself from sending her a nasty email.
I also bit my tongue so to speak at various family gatherings, keeping my biting humor firmly in check.
28. What’s the closest thing to a castle you’ve been in?
An actual castle? I was in Harloch Castle in Wales in the 1980s. Also Windsor Castle.
29. What were the circumstances the last time you were hoarse?
I had COVID?
30. For what will you likely pay a king’s ransom in the near future?
Retirement?
