Crazy workplace may kill me yet. I'm getting too old for all of this aggravation. I want to retire and write my novels. Also live closer to the beach or in the mountains or near more trees.

I read on either FB or Instagram, Ladystarlight's review of a book about Hex Twists - or how to twist a hex. Which she states is useful, if someone has put a hex on you, and you need to do a counter-spell or a protection spell regarding it.

I don't believe in that stuff. But, I admittedly would like to put a hex on a few lawyers...

There's something karmic about this. I'm being tortured by lawyers and have been for the last four years now. Is Universe torturing me for going to law school or for failing to actually practice law?

Speaking of lawyers - the new hurricane is named after one of mine.

Be nice if it skipped over my relatives and just took out the lawyers running my agency.

It's currently in line to crash into my Aunts and poor Uncle, whose 2022 isn't going much better than mine. They live in the Tampa Bay area - and that's Ian's current trajectory. Mother worries about it hitting her.

Stay away from my Momma, you pesky hurricane, and attack my annoying lawyers instead, they deserve it, she doesn't.

I have mice again. Or I've always had them, but they run over from the next door apartment to check out my digs - because I wasn't being vigilante about putting out the mint tea bags. (I put them out.) Either that - or they figured the coast was clear now that no one was painting any longer, and they'd waited long enough.

At any rate I put out a ton of super-strong mint tea bags last night - so strong that I could smell them. Mice apparently hate mint. I have no idea as to why.

I'd get a cat - but, 1) allergic, 2) they don't necessarily kill the mice, they play with them - often in bed with you, and the mice would eat the cat food, 3) if they do eat the mice, they eat everything but the innards, so you have to clean up stomach parts and just eww.

I had cats as a kid. And my brother has them. We also had mice, as does he.

Arcane stuck with me long after I completed it - which bodes well for a television series or anything really, considering how easily I forget things now. There's books I've reviewed that I can't remember reading. Also, I apparently visited my parents in the Spring of 2019, but I have no memory of it. Just proof of the plane tickets. It's very odd.

She's talking about being a mother with a sick kid. But I think this is true of everyone. My mother has no family near where she lives now - just a lot of friends - my brother and I will have to figure out what to do about it at some point. I also don't have any family near me - although they are closer in proximity to me than her - my brother is three-four hours away in NY.

1. What is the coolest guitare of all time?(I've no clue - apparently there are a lot of guitars to choose from??)
2. What album has no bad songs? (I'm sure there is one out there, I just can't think of it at the moment.)

1. You can say the Gibson Les Paul or the Fender Stratocaster ... but you know, I love the "specialty" guitars, like Rick Nielsen's "self-potrait" guitar or John Fogerty's baseball bat guitar.

2. Who's Next (IMO). But it's all just a matter of opinion. (The perfect album could also have imperfect songs, but work as a cohesive statement.)

Regarding 4? Agreed. They keep asking Queen questions on Twitter. Or rather Vintage Rock does.

I'd say Bob Dylan, although Waters has the better voice.

You know me so well.

I've been swamped over here in my little corner of Brooklyn, and I haven't had the time to post (or finish my Buffy S3 fanfic).

I am still employed. I have successfully transferred over from my dying branch in Boro Park to the branch on 15th Avenue. (Period of adjustment in process.)

Now, as to the pressing questions of the day:

1. Queen or Rush?

Pfft! Queen, of course. But I liked Rush a lot better when they stopped writing 25 minute "Tommy"-lite suites and got poppier. "Spirit of Radio", "Free Will" and "Subdivisions" are three favorites.

2. Freddy Mercury or Mick Jagger?

Freddy, of course. But I've grown to respect Mick's songwriting and on stage charisma a lot more over the years.

3. Freddy or Roger Daltrey?

As a Who fanatic, this hurts me: Freddy. Roger just doesn't have Freddy's vocal range or songwriting genius.

4. The Who or Queen?

The Who. I have an emotional connection to their music that I just don't have with Queen.

5. Who is the better songwriter, Bob Dylan or Roger Waters?

Dylan. By ten miles.

BONUS: Who is the better vocalist, Dylan or Waters?

Funniest question EVER. I find BOTH their voices close to unbearable. It's like asking, which is more pleasurable, gargling with hydrochloric or sulfuric acid? (You can decide which is which.)

Very true about having family within reach. I've felt that greatly as I've moved around and knowing there's a low chance that children will stay anywhere near in the long term. I think my mother recognized this in moving closer to family again at the end of her life. The extended family I feel closer to are a generation older than me and none are located nearby. Until taking a job here I'd never even been to Scotland before.

It's kind of why I'm sticking to NY in a way - my brother, his wife, and my niece are upstate, and niece plans to move to NYC. The other's that I'm closest too are much older and far far away. I do have some younger cousins out there that I friended on FB.

I'd like to go to Scotland some day. Maybe that'll be my next overseas trip. My niece and brother were telling me that I should go there or the Swiss Alps instead of Italy. (They did not like Italy.)

But at the moment? Trying not to worry about relatives and the pesky hurricane.

That quote about family is something that I've been thinking about as I get older. Not only do I not have family near me, I don't have any family in this *country* - it's part of the reason why I've always sort of had the thought in the back of my mind, that at some point, I would end up moving back to Canada.

2 of my 3 brothers are in Edmonton - I never had ANY desire to live in Edmonton, LOL. But if I were to move back to Canada - I would very likely end up in Edmonton at this point.

Feel much the same way. My brother, his wife, and my niece all live in New York, about two-three hours away. I've visited them twice in the past four years. And seen them recently in Hilton Head. So, we're in contact. And niece is darting in and out of NYC more frequently now - so I can see more of her - my favorite among them.

I'm basically on the east coast of the US because most of my family is here. Although not close by. I wish they were closer.

Probably not as far as where you are in California to Edmonton though. Edmonton sounds like Kansas City (which I've no desire to live in or Philadelphia, also no desire to live in).
Does sound the same distance as South Carolina and NY.

Canada though...that does sound appealing.

Yeah - there are additonal reasons that I am feeling like moving to Canada when I'm older and need more medical care, might be a good plan :D

I never thought of it as a form of wealth before but it does have financial benefits. Mostly it always seemed to me to be an important safety net -- something so many people are without due to either distance or losses.

Yeah, I agree. Friendship can only go so far and is often fleeting. Although my mother's friends right now are holding her together and giving her needed support, and they've fluctuated over time. She didn't necessarily have them when she was my age.

Family has deeper roots and can be a better safety net - but not always. And I think a lot of folks are struggling right now with serious gaps in that safety net, some expected, most not.
