Henry Cavill departs the Witcher in S4 - handing the character over to Liam Helmsworth

I'm not sure how that will work - the two actors look nothing alike. And Cavill is bigger.

Also...

Cavill is apparently returning to the role of Superman. So I'm guessing WB gave up on the Black Superman Movie they were flirting with?

Hmmm...turns out that I'm wrong. They are still pursuing it.

Black Superman Reboot Development

J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Superman reboot is reportedly still in active development at Warner Bros. Discovery. The DC brand has had a big shake-up in 2022 as Warner Bros. Discovery completed its massive merger earlier this year. On the small screen, The CW lost multiple DC TV shows as the network is getting a new majority stake owner. Over on the cinematic side for DC, Warner Bros. Discovery canceled the Batgirl movie despite the film having already finished principal photography in late March.

It's not clear, but the two people helming it do have some clout, and I don't see WB backing off a project they helm quickly. Also DC likes to do AU verses and has for some time, plus comics lend themselves to it.

Henry Cavill. To Liam Hemsworth. Good grief. Hadn't heard of the Black Superman project. I am glad Ta-Nehisi is writing it because JJ cannot write worth a damn.

Agreed on all of the above (well I did know about the Black Superman project, just not that JJ Abrahams was the producer/director). I agree JJ can't write. He really has nothing to say that is formula.

Cavill to Liam Hemsworth is definitely a weird transition. I really thought Cavill's Superman was done earlier this year and I think I read somewhere he is hoping for a "lighter" Superman so we'll see how that goes. Superman has always been my favorite so I do hope it works out.

I suppose the Black Superman was always separate and not tied to it. I figured they gave up on Cavill's Superman and I heard Dwayne Johnson really had to push them to have the cameo in Black Adam. Maybe whatever response they got made them bring him back.

Apparently - it brought more folks to the film, and more than once? Cavill is a very good Superman - he looks like he could be Superman. I can see why the Rock pushed for it.

What?! I just can't see Helmsworth as Geralt, also what is it with TV show's recasting lately? I guess it is better than them cancelling shows prematurely, but it is a little off putting as the viewer.

I know, right? I'd have just killed off the character or found a way to write him out - which they used to do. Recasts only work for daytime soap operas (and not always very well).

And I would not have recast with Liam Helmsworth...but maybe they've decided to go with a younger/earlier version? Oh well at least it's only for the fourth season. But I'm not sure I'm going to continue with it....I've not seen S2 yet, and they just finished filming S3, apparently.

I suspect the change doesn't bode well for the direction the show will be taking.

My guess is they may be using him as a younger version? But agreed. I'm not sure I'll bother continuing with it.

In the books there's a long stretch where a lot happens in just a few months. I'd guess they need to keep him from getting older while they film all that.
