Today's accomplishments included:

1. Not eating carbs or sweets
2. Putting up my little window Christmas Tree
3. Taking my I-Life Robot Vacuum out of the box and charging it in the kitchen. (I now have two - because the IRobot vacuum wasn't doing as good a job. Note to self - ignore the marketing and stick with the cheaper I-Life robot brand.)
4. Clearing off my small desk of "remote work at home laptop setup" and putting that in storage container, so I can make myself a little watercolor/painting station - where I can do artwork. I've not been able to do any because no desk. I bought the desk initially so I could do it. Then COVID happened - and it became my remote from home work station. It has an ergonomic chair now because of it. It will be turned into an art station. I'm good at watercolor, painting and drawing - so it's relaxing for me. It uses a different part of the brain.

Outside of that, I laid about, talked to mother, watched television and got into a pointless debate online about spectator sports with two people who cared about them, while I don't. Pointless - because it's not like I watch them or am remotely emotionally invested. [It should be noted that generally speaking? I find spectator sports involving a ball - frustrating to watch, dull as toast, and anxiety inducing. Fun not so much. Enjoyable - meh. I could live without them frankly.]

Me: Folks online posted about how Americans weren't as invested in soccer as Football and Baseball - because it wasn't as exciting.
Mother: What? That makes no sense. [Unlike me, mother likes watching sports with balls.]
Me: I know, it's complete BS, also the ensuing debate made me dislike baseball and football and want nothing to do with them.
Mother: Uhm, did you ever like them that much to begin with? Or want anything to do with them?
Me: Well, no...

Also soccer to me is more entertaining - it rarely breaks for commercials, it can't the action doesn't stop for more than a few seconds. Soccer is a stamina sport, you are constantly running about passing and kicking a ball with your feet - it requires stamina and balance, and a lot of skill. But, even watching that? I got bored.

I might watch a spectator sport once in a blue moon. I've watched exactly one soccer match in the last five years - the one today, and not all of it. Also for a while I couldn't tell which team was which, and realized halfway through I was rooting for the wrong one. And football? The last football game I watched was in...I think 2010? I can't remember. I think the last baseball game was in 2015.

I can talk about sports, but I am not emotionally invested in them - particularly anything that includes a ball. I have more respect for running, track and field, swimming, diving, ice skating, gymnastics, etc.

**
Television

Watched the US vs. Netherlands match - the US lost. Although, it was hard to be that upset about it - since the Netherlands have never won a World Cup and they've been playing longer. I may try to catch the Brazil vs. Netherlands game, since I would root for either. I prefer it when I like both teams. Guy in front of me at the pharmacy the other day - was hunting back pain relief..."I need it because I play too much soccer, either that or I'm getting old."

Me: Possibly both?
Guy: Most likely. But I need to be in good shape to root for my team, Brazil in the World Cup. I'm hoarse from screaming, I mean cheering them on.

House of Dragon

One of my co-workers, Mel, convinced me to finish House of Dragon. I'd made it to episode 8, and she said I had to see the last two episodes, because they were great.

She's right they were - far better than the rest of the season actually. Although still filmed a tad too darkly - it was hard to see what was happening. A problem with the latter seasons of GoT as well. Did they hire a poor lighting and production staff?

The plus side of HoD is the two leads are strong women, who were childhood friends pushed to be enemies due to the machinations of men. It's kind of misanthropic in a weird sort of way.

The dragons are used more as weapons than anything else here.

The second to last episode was supposed to Hitchcockian or a thriller, but I got lost and was distracted during it. The discussion afterwards clarified it. Part of the problem - was it was hard to hear the dialogue, and I had the sound turned way up, also it was hard to see a good portion of the action.

Another co-worker explained to me that I might want to check the dynamic sound on my television - I can set it so the sound is more constant and doesn't get louder on some channels and quieter on others. If I can find the owner's manual - he could help me figure it out - I'm not sure where it is. (Small apartment, endless clutter, no storage space - unless I want to buy some in the basement, which is tempting.)

The last episode, I could follow with little difficulty, and the action was far more visible. It used light better. Also, Matt Smith is more dynamic an actor than a good percentage of the actors in the previous episode. So too is Emma D'Arcy and whomever is playing the older Princess, and wife of the Leader of the Driftwood. (I adore her, she's my favorite character. She should be Queen). Also the characters here - are more likable.

So, it was worth it. I'm glad she talked me into it. The write-ups didn't do either episode justice. Curious if the show will continue to distance itself from the books?

Another co-worker wants me to try Wednesday next. It's either that or finishing Andor. I also should go back to the Crown. Mother, at brother's suggestion, is watching English on Amazon Prime.

Books

Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Lie aka Mathew Perry memoir about addiction

Perry paints an interesting picture of an addict. However, it is disturbing how into fame and prestige, he became. He name drops a lot, and talks about how he dated these successful women, dropped them because he disliked himself, and was into sleeping around. He comes across as a bit of a womanizer - he worships and demeans women at the same time.

He's an addict. When he stopped drinking - he substituted sex. And didn't want lasting commitments. Curious as to why women would date him or go for that? Not all did. But there were quite a few. Is he charming? Very. But you'd think they would have seen through it at some point?

The Princess and the Rogue

Feels very much like fanfic. The characters feel slightly off at times. It is getting better now that they've left the Ewoks and Endor behind. (I am not a fan of the Ewoks, who are kind of silly, and a touch offensive.)

Yay for accomplishments. (-: I too am getting some stuff done this weekend but perhaps mostly because of an externally imposed deadline.

Ooh, dynamic sound compression would be a useful feature on a television, many of us struggle with quiet dialog. Given the model number, the manual's PDF may be online. Since moving, I too am short of storage.

Not an Ewok fan either, I'd rather prefer the movies with less attempt at cute/funny.

Those are probably my favorites too. (-: Also the humor in Babylon 5 was often more painful than funny.

Fairly sure my previous television didn't have that option but that was from 2007 or so. Haven't yet much investigated the one that came with this apartment.

"I need to be in good shape to root for my team, Brazil in the World Cup."

That's hilarious!

"Is he charming? Very. But you'd think they would have seen through it at some point?"

I'm sure for many people, that fact that he's famous is enough.
