Will be off the grid from 12/21/22 to 12/28/22 - off to see Momma. Mother doesn't have a computer any longer and I've chosen not to bring my laptop down with me. I think I need a break from the computer - or my eyes do. So, going off the grid so to speak.

1. ) Came home Monday to a mess - apparently a radiator pipe sprung a serious leak, two floors above me. So have a leak in my living room and bathroom. Two in the bathroom. And one leak in the living room - corner of the living room about ten-fifteen inches from the television set. I moved the TV set, and covered the wiring. (It's not a huge issue - I have everything plugged into an excellent grounder.) Then had to clean up the mess - paint, plaster, etc was on the floor along with water. In the bathroom my towels (which I'd bought about two months ago) were sopping wet on the rack, and my pajama top had flakes of paint on it and was soaked, with the pj bottoms also slightly damp. The bath mat was soaked through. I immediately put down pans to catch the water. Tried to just do pans in the living room, but ended up with yet another paint/plaster mess that I had to clean up from the floor. So this go around, I cut up a few plastic bags and covered the floor surrounding the pans with them.

The super explained that a pipe broke on the fifth floor - and it's a radiator pipe, which leaks whenever the boiler heats up the pipes. They tried to turn off the valve for the radiators in the bathrooms on my line, but it didn't work - the valve wouldn't hold and made it actually worse.

The plumber couldn't come until Wednesday, long after I leave (I'm leaving at 5:45 am for the airport). But they said they'd fix the mess while I'm gone, once it dries. I always give them access. I trust them.

Tonight, I did laundry when I came home - wasn't intending on doing it. But I couldn't handle the towels being gross, or the bath mat. Luckily no one was in the laundry room - so I got it done quickly.

2. Won $32 via NY Scratch Off Lottery. Two Co-workers gave me the scratch off cards for Xmas. Leo and JB, who helped me figure out what television to buy back in 2019. Leo helped me figure it out and went to claim it for me - he's such a sweetheart.

Also, FM gave me a hug.

Me: You coming back to this department this year - is one the bright spots of this year, and the best things that happened. Also, I remember how much you helped me when I first joined, and have always been grateful for that.
FM: Oh, can I hug you?
Me: Yes, you can.

We're the same height and around the same size - so this hug worked. I didn't have to bend way over like I do with most folks, including Momma.

AM who was out today, took the time to send me a message via Linked In to wish me a Merry Xmas. Considering I screwed up last week (while I was under the gun trying to award the project from hell) - on something she'd been working on. (I was using a memorandum she wrote as a template, and forgot to save it under a new name in my files, so accidentally overwrote it. I felt awful. She needed it to give to the auditor. But she was gracious about it, grace personified. She didn't get angry at me, or rail at me, or anything. I was so impressed. I'd have killed me.)

Lovely co-workers have made this year bearable, and are the reason I've not jumped ship.

3. On Sunday did charitable contributions. Chose: Environmental Defense Fund, NY Food Bank, Immigrant Solidarity (through my church - we're sheltering and aiding several Venezuelan Families in the church, one even held a cooking class recently (no I didn't attend). These are the asylum seekers that Florida and Texas sent by the bus loads to NYC. NYC area churches, synagogues, mosques, houses of worship - all opened their doors to the refugees and have been working to help them. ) and US Marines Toys for Tots program - that provides toys for disadvantaged children during the holidays.

4. Off to Hilton Head tomorrow morning to spend the holidays with my mother. It's going to be cold tomorrow. And in Hilton Head. Bro nixed Hawaii and went to Montreal for the holidays instead for a few days.
(Hawaii was too expensive.)

Gabe (at work) was talking about how money doesn't go as far as it used to now.

And the work day just drug. I felt like it was 9 am for hours. But once I got home - the time sped by. Time speeds when I'm not looking at it.

5. Have a happy holiday, whatever you celebrate or just a peaceful and relaxing week, if you don't.

See you after the 28th.
