Last day of being 55. Tomorrow turn 56, and begin a new year.
Today, new gal, JS, wished me a happy birthday. She's into astrology. I'm a skeptic, I keep meeting exceptions to the rule. That said? I do not get along with Leos for long. That seems to be a given. Sagitarians don't like talking about emotional things or for very long. Libra's are accommodating. Aquarius likes me. And Piceses are a mixed bag.
Everyone else? Varies. My brother and niece are Taurus. My sisinlaw is Leo.
Mother Libre. Father Sagitarius. Wales - Libre.
I always forget Libre's birthdays.
I don't know why.
Anyhow, I like new gal - she puts her foot in her mouth more than I do. It's reassuring. She's still pissed off about being placed in Jamaica, Queens after she'd been told that she would be located in Tribeca, Manhattan. I do not blame her. She lives upstate - it's about an hour to midtown, while two hours to Jamaica.
Add to that...the work environments are substantially different. Tribeca is near the Freedom Tower, Battery City Park, and the Ferries. It's lovely down there. We work in the air train building, in homeless and meth addict central.
She's 41. I thought she was older. I feel better now. I kept thinking she'd aged very well. Which would have been the case if she was 47 or 51. You really can't tell how old people are. I've always been told that I look young for my age. I personally don't see it.
Work was actually entertaining today. Which was nice for a change. I had movement on my stalled projects. It wasn't a great deal of movement - but any progress at this point in the game is greatly appreciated. Crazy Org has well...let's just say pushing all those projects through at the end of the year in a mad rush, was not the best idea in the world. According to the AAs, there's all sorts of mishaps.
Also positive people interactions. There were negative ones too - but I've chosen to handwave those. Chidi was all a flutter about The Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt which he'd just discovered. (He thought it was originally on network television - it wasn't. It's always been a Netflix series.)
Chidi: Have you seen Unbreakable Kimmi Schmidt?
Me: Yes - a little of it.
Chidi: What do you think? Isn't it brilliant? The laughs keep on coming!
Me: Eh, not my thing. I didn't like it. It's kind of embarrassment humor. (It's by Tina Fey, and I don't find Tina Fey funny. Cringe inducing yes, funny no. I'm possibly the only human who didn't like 30 Rock or Mean Girls.)
I swear my sense of humor and most people's sense of humor is at odds.
Oh, forgot my lunch today - so finally checked out Chipolte. It works. You can get romaine lettuce, grilled chicken, tomato salsa, guac, and shredded cheese for $15. Although, I may kill the cheese the next go around. And possibly the quac - which is a surcharge.
And Gabe thinks I missed my calling and should become a professional film, television and book reviewer - and do that as a side hustle.
"You're so detailed in your review, constructive and analytical - you'd be great."
Me: I was taught to do that in school - it was my degree. [Hello, English Lit Major - what do you think we do? We learn how to write meta on English Literature, Television Shows, Plays and Film.
I was great at it, but you can't make a living at it. Well you can - but it's competitive, and they didn't want me. Sigh. If I could do that - I'd have done it 20 some years ago. It's not like I didn't try or anything. What a lot of folks don't understand - is in order to get those jobs, you need to have inside contacts. An in. They are in high demand. There are a lot of professional television, film and book critic review blogs out there. Everyone and their pet wants to do it. Also, it's not that hard to do. I know professional critics - they have it rough.

Museum Fun
Spent some time this evening hunting a fun activity to do this weekend - preferably not outside, and not expensive. I'm currently flirting with the Spyscape Museum - it's an interactive museum that tests your spying skills, set up by MI6. Why MI^ set up a Spy Museum in NYC, as opposed to you know, the CIA, is beyond me. Also HERE. Spyscape is also featuring an game - where you use an app to solve a crime with Batman in Gotham City. You interact with Batman and other characters, and are a central character in the mystery.
Sounds like fun. I don't think I can do it tomorrow - doing dinner with Stacy, and I have to get to the pharmacy. Plus, I want to kind of veg.
But it may be a fun thing to do on Friday.
There's no hard rule that I have to do it on my birthday. I kind of just want to take a few walks and veg on my birthday. Maybe watch a movie. Maybe paint. Maybe read comic books - I've a lot in my queue.
I already gave myself the next couple of days off as a birthday present. I'm taking Thursday, Friday, and Monday off. It's daylight savings time on Sunday, and I have the Artist's Way group on that day. So, I've plenty of time to do it.
Regarding Spyscape - you can buy tickets on site, but they recommend doing it ahead of time. And they limit the number of folks who can go into the exhibit at any one time - to about fifteen.
Did you know that there are...145 museums in NYC? Here's a current listing of all of them. I've been to roughly half.
Some are unique to NYC, such as Momath or the National Museum of Mathematics - which is the only one in the country. I don't know about the world.
COVID has affected a lot of them, and the American Museum of Finance is currently seeking a new home. But dear god, there's a lot of museums. I'm thinking of trying to check out two-three a month? I still won't get through them all.
I wanted to do the Star Wars Exhibit - but it's long gone, along with the Harry Potter. But, there is ... Wonderland Dreams - a Handpainted Immersive Experience in Alice in Wonderland.
It's not that pricey - about $39.
You can't really complain about having nothing to do in this city. I also found an interactive musical that is in a hotel and pub for about $123.
I'm just lazy and don't want to take trains and wander about. But I might take myself on an excursion on Friday. And possibly Saturday. Definitely going to church on Sunday.

Date: 2023-03-09 09:56 am (UTC)Mmm, certainly not many math museums around! At least, I'd not come across any and it's the kind of thing I'd have noticed. (Just a couple of days ago, I saw an logo on a car and my first thought was but, no, of course makes a lot more sense here.)

Date: 2023-03-09 04:18 pm (UTC)I could possibly do a movie on Saturday? Supposed to rain - but we would be seeing a movie.
Considering doing the museum stuff tomorrow - because also supposed to rain - and it would be indoors. But lugging about an umbrella...
Not doing it today. Haven't gotten my act together. And I'm enjoying staring out at a blue sky at the moment, and taking a walk shortly. Plus it's warmer today.
(Busy on Sunday. Taking Monday and Friday off.)
