[Yes once again the subject heading escapes me.]
Another lovely day, the type you want to wander through grass and scrunch it between your toes. Did I? Nooo...cooped up in windowless office building.
But happy for job.

Here's a nifty little thought courtesy of well, I won't tell you where I got it from: “It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves and it is not possible to find it elsewhere” - Agnes Repplier

Makes me feel oddly better. Oh loved [livejournal.com profile] fresne responses to my get to know you meme. Especially the bit on Buffy or Angel, and the one on Kids.
Both were far closer to what I felt, than what I wrote. "I liked Angel, but Buffy...err there have been essays..." Yep. Also [livejournal.com profile] londonkds nails my feelings on kids as well.

Have another question for anyone out there, before I do oyceter's meme, come up with 10 accomplishments you did in the past two years. They can be anything. From writing an essay and posting it to the internet to arranging to meet someone you met online for lunch. The trick? What's important is not the end result but the doing of it. Had a lightbulb moment tonight - I realized I've been looking at things all wrong - thinking that it is not an accomplishment, it is not worthy if the end result isn't shiny or great. ie. the old it doesn't matter how you played the game - did you win? Or, so what if I wrote a book - it wasn't published. Forgetting that the journey in writing the book, having people look at it, taking the criticism..is in a way more interesting and more important than whether or not it gets published.
I wonder if I'm placing too much importance on destinations?? And not enough on journeys?

1. Describe your strangest pair of socks

black with white little flowers (work socks and not that strange, now I think on it), perhaps the green and pink neons? Oh wait the brown fuzzy socks that feel like putting mittens on ones feet? (I adore socks. Hate shoes, but adore socks. Unfortunately very hard to find some in my size - I run 11-13 in socks.)

• Can I see pictures of your bookshelves (or book stacks or piles or boxes)?

Yeah right. That would involve technological capabilities I do not have.
Can describe - two boxes full of books under the bed. A bag full behind the bed. Four boxes of comic books hiding underneath a colored sheet with stuffed animals on top next to the closet. Two book shelves with two rows of books back to back, in front the ones I haven't read, behind the ones I have. I have a book fetish - but do not have the space, money or wherewithal to get the bookcases to house it. Also all arranged by genre.

• If you were a hat, what kind of hat would you want to be?

I've tried on many and none fit me, not a hat person. I think I'd like to be a french beret, preferably black, sleek, stylish like a siamese cat.

• What's the worst song you've gotten stuck in your head before?

That Britney Spears number that has the line, I'm not so innocent.

• My rats: evil killers of paper bags, cute sleepy fuzzballs or embarrassingly tame yogie-drop eaters?

My rats are imaginary and they gnaw. (Yes I stole fresne's response, I admit it)

• Books or food?

Almost stole fresne's response again. It's food for the moment, because really I haven't read half the books I own and this is getting ridculous.
I used to go on book buying sprees whenever I got depressed to cheer myself up, not caring if I never read half of them. Then during the two-year unemployment - I was *not* allowed to buy any books (except for the kind souls who sent them to me or bought them for me) got 0. So went cold turkey. Have been buying again here and there, but not like I used to. I blame my parents who also can't leave a bookstore without five to six books in tow.

• If you could live in a book, what genre would it belong to? How come?

Currently? Science Fiction/Fantasy - preferably one with magic. Why? Isn't it obvious - adventure, no boredom, and lots of possibilities.

• Stealing from the movie Wonderful Life (also known as After Life): if you were told that you could only carry one memory with you into the afterlife, which would you choose?

I don't know. Right now...I sort of like the memory of a guy in school ( a kindred spirit - no, we were never romantically involved nor wanted to be) telling me that he'd won second place in a poetry contest and I won second in a short-story contest. It was one of those odd out of time, out of space connecting minutes, where you and the other person are just in total sync. We were sitting alone off by ourselves at a senior class outting, everyone was doing the group thing and here we were chatting about that feeling of winning.
He'd gotten a sneak peek, so we knew before anyone else did, before it was announced. It was our shared secret. Do I want that as my only memory? Certainly not. And not as the one to take to the afterlife. But I have tucked it away close to my heart. Not the winning, but the...hard to explain, the connection I felt to the other person.

Was watching a show tonight - where two characters were discussing the moment that defined their lives. That there was no going back from. That changed them forever. I'm not sure what that moment is for me...or if I have one? Was it 9/11? Was it the moment my Dad started to tell me stories - passing on, without even quite realizing it, his own natural aptitude and gift for telling a tale? I was discussing this with someone tonight and they pointed out to me that it wasn't the writing that's the natural gift - it's the telling and creating of stories in my head. Whether or not others read them isn't the point, the fact I feel the drive to tell them? That is a gift not all people have and one I used to take for granted, until I thought I lost it - last year. It's come back now...in bits and pieces, and as it does, I feel more and more whole.

• What do you know a lot about that most people don't? Most people here should be most people, not most people in that field. I specify this because I know how badly I prevaricate when I'm asked about something that I'm good at. Or if you still feel weird, what do you know a lot about that I don't (I don't know about a lot of stuff)? Why is it cool? Tell me about it!

I've a head for stories or trivia that involves stories or analyzing stories.
I obsess over stories, whether they are ancient myths, fairy tales, folktales, novels or TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I can break them down, analyze the bits and pieces, see what works, what doesn't, and even create my own from them. As well as predict where they are going structurally. Stories are where I live. I have a great memory for anything told in story form.

Not sure that's the question though? What do I know a lot about? I know a lot about structures or rather have an intuitive sense of the structure of certain things - such as Welsh myths. Soap operas. The reasons behind those things - why they work they way they do. Copyright law. I know a lot about noir films. I know a lot about fictional books. I know a lot about the television industry and how the entertainment industry works, why it works the way it does. I know a lot about different jobs and occupations. And a lot about the structures of corporations. My mind likes to break that stuff down for some reason, play with it, analyze it.

• What random bit of trivia do you know?

Mind is a blank at the moment...maybe later. Bedtime for Bonzo and all that.
