1. While cooking dinner, I decided to throw out the Rotesseri Chicken finally - only to discover that the garbage can in my kitchen was crawling with fruit fly larva. Little white things moving about. And some with the beginnings of wings. I killed all of them - without mercy.

Took about an hour - so the lamb got cold and a little tough, and the green beans could have been better.

But alas, the larva mess could not wait.

Ugh. I think they were fruit flies. Most likely. I've even googled it How to get Rid of Fruit Flies without harming the Environment" (ie. using clorox bleach - which I unfortunately did, because I didn't google this first. My bad. Although I think the environment will survive.) I've since used rubbing alcohol, baking soda and vinegar.

They appear to be all gone now. Word to the wise - be careful with food from fruit stands, and farmer's markets.

2. Finished Dance with a Fae Prince by Elisa Kova - this was courtesy of Kindle Unlimited (so free with subscription).

It was okay. Should have been called "The Glass Crown" - much better title.
Also, I'd have re-worked it - so more fantasy, less romance. It's basically a reworking of the Cinderella story, except she's discovered by a glass crown at the end - and the reward isn't the Prince, but to rule his kingdom, with him by her side as her consort. And he supports her throughout.

I gave it away - but I kind of figured it out in the first half of the book (which was the problem - it took to long to get there, and I got annoyed.)

Did show me what not to do - in regards to the fantasy I've got percoalting in my head. I had a few similar ideas - which I'm tossing for different ones now, as a result of reading this book.

Also the focus on romance in this book didn't quite work - they'd have been better off building the romance slightly differently. Not quite certain how. And far too much emphasis on Cinderella bit - not enough on the world building. Fantasy needs a little more world-building, I think?

Your comment about the fruit flies reminded me of how I used to get rice from bins at the natural food store, partly to save on packaging. Discovered there were bugs in it -- last time for that.
