May. 26th, 2013 09:22 pmFinished watching Call the Midwife S2 - while I suppose some may call it emotionally manipulative or melodramatic in places, I didn't find it so. What I loved most about it - was it focused on the women during the time period, was up-lifting for the most part, while casting an unflinching eye on the conditions at the time. The only weak bit is Jenny, who suffers from the first-person voice over narrative device, which makes her feel almost aloof or set apart from the action. But this may be due more to the device than to the actress (who also played the socially awkward empath in the haunted house episode of Doctor Who, recently) or the role.
