Elementary, Revolution, Falling Skies...
May. 28th, 2013 09:16 pmStaycation drawing to a close. Currently watching the first of the five Elementary episodes have on backlog. I'm behind by five episodes. Elementary is too episodic to watch in a marathon. Oh you can, I suppose. It would just put me to sleep. Or this episode is. It's not the finale, it's four episodes away from it. I also, admittedly am only watching Elementary for the character bits not the case of the week. I love the characters in this series. The mysteries are sort of dumb. Want to sort of meld this series with Moffat's Sherlock - Moffat can write the mystery of the week, and the American writers can do everything else.
I've got Mad Men on Backlog as well...but can't quite get in the mood to watch it.
Finished watching my backlog of Revolution episodes (which I'm mainly watching for the actors playing Miles, Elizabeth Mitchell, the guy who used to play Gus on Breaking Bad, and the actor playing Sebastian Monroe). I figured out why it doesn't quite work for me - besides the plot holes that are big enough for a caravan to ride through (highly noticeable upon marathon viewing), it's difficult to follow due to all the flashbacks and jumping around - and as result hard to care. Plus like Supernatural and Lost - the writer thinks the way to keep the audience's attention is to keep throwing violent plot twists and cliff hangers at the audience. Falling Skies which is similar in some respects, is much better and does a better job of building up its characters. Plus, oddly, not quite as violent - maybe because the humans are firing weapons at non-human insectoid aliens? I have about twenty of its episodes backlogged. Watched the pilot episode today, was impressed. Decided to try it after reading a promising blurb from last year's season finale.
It reminds me a little of BSG in how it is constructed. In addition, Falling Skies - so far, only watched the pilot, science and plot makes more sense than Revolution. And it's less comic-book silly.
I'm relaxed. Did the PT tonight. But did not get back to working on revising my novel so that I can either try shopping it around again or publishing it myself.
