Saw The Crazy Ones - the new sitcom with SMG and Robin Williams and James Wolk. It didn't impress me. And SMG appears to be miscast again, she's just not a good fit. It really should just be the Wolk/Williams show. While it could get potentially better - Thursday is way too crowded, so it'll have to go.

The Glee first episode is weirdly better than I expected. Actually it's sort of joyous and upbeat. They are doing the Beatles well. Although it is kinda of hard not to - the Beatles wrote some of the most singable songs ever. (Recently saw Julie Taymor's surreal and somewhat psychedelic trip through the 60s and Beatles tunes, entitled Across the Universe - it reminded me a lot of the film version of the musical "Hair". Had some great numbers - particularly "Happiness is a Warm Gun" and "I Want You - She's So Heavy". Also Jim Sturges looked and sounded like a young Paul McCartney. Other than that - I unimpressed. It's okay. But like most of Julie Taymor's films...lacked something. I just not quite sure what. I felt emotionally distanced from the material. This wasn't true with her production of The Lion King or her filmed version of Titus Andronicus, so it may be restricted to certain types of material?) Also in regards to Glee - the first three episodes are always fairly good, the next five horrid, the next three good, the next five horrid, and the last four great. It's an incredibly uneven series.

Other flicks seen but haven't commented on:

Nicholas Hoult double feature:

1. Warm Bodies - sweet and lightly amusing tale of a newborn zombie who falls for a zombie hunter and their love reanimates the zombies (ie they are cured and become human again.). Now if only they could cross over to The Walking Dead. Nick Hoult who plays the lead was quite good. It's sort of a lightly satirical take on Twilight series as well.
Funny in places. John Malcovich - gets to be the adult star power.

2. Jack the Giant Killer - better than expected. From the reviews and comments on line, I went in with low expectations. But it was light and frothy, and a rather amusing take on the old legend. Also, Hoult was appealing, as was Ewan McGregor. The female lead could have been stronger, but she was better than expected. It's about a princess who gets bored and seeks adventure - ends up in Giant Land, gets rescued and they save the kingdom from the crazy CGI Giants. (OUAT did this a bit better.) But it was fun.

Have decided to stick with Marvel Agents of SHIELD for the time being. I enjoyed it, nothing to write home about or get fannish over. But it made me smile. Also it's on Tuesday and there isn't much on Tuesday.
