Oh dear, this is just hilarious.

RT Davies Midsummer Night's Dream just got two diametrically opposed reviews on my flist.

One person really really loved it, one really really hated it. And they are right next to each other. There's no post between them. They literally posted within minutes of each other. What are the odds?

Now, I'm mildly curious -- what is it about this particular presentation of Midsummer Night's Dream that managed to acquire two diametrically opposed reviews? I mean I have seen various presentations of it, including a naked and gay dance interpretation back in the 1980s on the London Stage. (I saw it with a college theater class. We were spending about three months in London studying theater and writing critiques about it.) That presentation was, ahem, interesting to say the least. It also...came very close to soft-core gay porn. Not sure the class knew what to make of it. It's admittedly one of my favorite Shakespearean plays, not necessarily that presentation which while innovative was rather amateurish. And it is amongst the few Shakespearean plays that I've performed in myself. I played Helena in a theater group's presentation of it in Junior High. (we did not perform it naked.)

I have to admit works of art that get diametrically opposed and extreme reviews - arose my interest. I want to see them for myself - if only to figure out what it was about this work of art that generated such an extreme emotional reaction from people.

But alas, it's not available here. So will have to wait until it is, assuming it ever does become available.
