Mar. 7th, 2019 09:50 pm1. Current plan is to go to the Morgan Library tomorrow morning to see the Tolkien exhibit -- which I really do want to see. And do the Rubin with Wales on Saturday. The Rubin is an Asian art museum, with a collection of art from India and the Himalayas..it's very spiritual with a spiral staircase and a cool cafe. I've never been. Also, I love the Morgan Library.
2. Reading through DW flist...and ...several news items are amusing and...well..not amusing.
* They are turning the television show "NASHVILLE" into a Broadway musical -- because the television series was so wildly successful. Okay.
* Apparently the State of NY is going after Trump on Insurance fraud or something along those lines. I'm amused by NY. Trump's home state really hates Trump and is pulling out all the stops in bringing the asswipe to justice. It figures if it can't win on one, there's about twenty others it can get him on. (Go NY!) To date I think it has about fifteen different lawsuits and investigations underway (I keep seeing a new one in the news each month). I think NY has decided screw the Federal Government, if the Fed's don't do their job, NY will do it for them, damn it. Reminds me when people went after Al Capone...
* Interesting article on Sam Peckinpah and the Wild Bunch -- which basically is the film that changed the Western genre permanently -- it brought in the era of the realistic and darker Westerns. And is by far one of the best action films made and best Western's made. Peckinpah means of shooting violence -- which is hyper-realistic, influenced everyone from Francis Ford Coppola to the Quentin Tarantino.
If you study the craft and art of filmmaking -- Peckinpah's the Wild Bunch is a must see. It's also notable for casting actual Mexican actors in the Mexican roles. (At that time, they often cast white, Greek, or Spanish actors in the roles.) In addition, if you were a fan of the series Angel -- the final episode was heavily influenced by the Wild Bunch. Whedon studied Westerns and Slasher flicks in film school and was heavily influenced by Peckinpah, most people who took cinema courses in the 1980s -- were. I did, and ended up writing a paper on Peckinpah's the Wild Bunch in undergrad. (I wrote a lot of critical essays on films, television shows, and plays in undergrad -- which were ripped to pieces by instructors until I got it right.)
* From SmartBitches...a Kindle Daily Deal that cracked me up...The hero is a bike and a rockstar, who is then tasked with playing wedding planner. Yep, a biker rockstar wedding planner. Readers liked the opposites attract romance, but as you can tell, there’s a lot going on.
Hee Hee. The hero is a bike and a rockstar..who becomes a wedding planner. So hmm.
(I know it's a typo, but it is a funny typo.) Romance novel genre can be wonky when it wants to be.
* There's a Doctor Who poll by ruuger. (Obviously they have a paid account. Sigh. I miss being able to do polls, but alas..I draw the line at paying for social media. I'll pay for television, books, comics, movies, but not for social media.) Anyhow..from memory?
