Day #70 of Self-Isolation in Epidemic Central

While the rest of New York State is opening up, New York City remains locked down, well for the most part. They did re-open the New York Stock Exchange today - considering I didn't know it was shut down...Apparently, they continued to run it remotely, and just didn't let anyone really back in the building until today. Now it has a skeleton crew of sorts, and hefty restrictions. Masks, social distancing, hand sanitizer. In addition, no one is permitted to take public transportation to get there - if you can't get there in another way - you get to continue working remotely from home.

I have a feeling this will most likely be my situation as well, until at least July. I'm not ready to go back - I don't trust people to abide by the rules to keep me and everyone else safe. People are selfish nitwits. So, yes, I am afraid of the nitwits. I posted on the Kensington Face Book page in exasperation to the nitwits in my neighborhood. They were whinging about having to put on face masks to get to their car, walking their dog, riding a bike, taking a short jog, or walking down the block. Meanwhile in a desperate post right below them, was Midnight Jane's post about being an ICU nurse, wearing a mask, and googles twelve hours a day - and it's so painful by that point, she has permanent indentations and scratches from the latext under her eyes and above her nose. I told them that all they had to do was wear a mask for an hour maybe less - to keep us all safe, and to honor the people who have to wear them all day long in essential professions such as grocery store clerk, bus driver, transit worker, nurse, doctor, security guard, and police, etc. It's a small thing to do. Be kind. Wear a mask.

Honestly, some people are assholes. I want to take a big stick and spank their bottoms. OR smack them upside the head.

Frustrated and exasperated from Work, and well everything else, the less said about it, the better...there are days in which I feel like all I'm doing is whinging - I went for a very long meditative walk in Greenwood Cemetery. It was a beautiful day for it, not all that many people out and about, and the ones that were - unlike over the memorial day weekend -- were wearing masks. Yay team!

Greenwood Cemetery was peaceful. It's a kind of oasis from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although to a degree surrounded by residential areas, there's never been that much hustle or bustle around it. There is more traffic than there was before, and I heard more of it. Also more cars driving around it.

People are creeping out. The Governor pointed out in his live briefing today from the Stock Exchange (he certainly gets around), that while there would be people eager to get out and back to things as if nothing happened, most would be hesitant and wait. The PTSD of this thing was going to have a huge effect. Well, yeah, in part because of the idiots who think we all overreacted to it. The NY Times did a survey and realized most people are hesitant to go anywhere because of the idiots.

She who walks through Cemeteries is BACK!

So, as related in a previous post, I decided to take a really long walk around Greenwood Cemetery today. Wasn't planning on taking photos, but I did. Some day, I'll walk about it and not take one. But hey, this round I did not get lost or need a map to figure my way out - even though I brought one. I'm beginning to think I've walked so much around the place that I am figuring it out?

It's lovely because it is the only spot that I've found in New York City where I can walk for over thirty minutes without seeing a soul. And when I do, they tend to stay over ten feet away. In a city like New York, where I am basically living with over three million people, this is a rarity. Also, it's among the few places that has lots and lots of grass, trees, flowers, etc and no debris. I don't see disposed gloves, disposed masks, etc. Honestly people if you want to wear gloves? Do not throw them out in the streets. It's disgusting, unsanitary, and goes against the whole point of wearing the stupid gloves. I saw people wearing gloves in Greenwood Cemetery which kind of boggled my mind - and no they didn't drive into the cemetery with them - I can sort of see wanting to wear gloves while driving a car.
You're touching a hard surface. But when you are walking around Greenwood Cemetery - you aren't touching anything. Sure I touch my phone and purse - but I haven't touched anything else - so they are fine. (Plus gloves do not keep me from touching my face - so the whole point of gloves is completely lost on me. It's kind of like the idea that if you brush your teeth, you won't eat? I can get around that. )

People bewilder me. Anyhow, there were people sunbathing, tending graves, walking with a friend or partner, playing with their kids, sitting on the grass talking on their cell phones, here and there. But for the most part, I didn't see anyone. I'd say I saw maybe twenty people in the Cemetery, if that during my three mile hike. Most of the people I saw and had to avoid were outside the cemetery.

As an aside and before I attempt to post pictures...I think I figured out the source of the shoulder pain - ergonomics. Which are kind of impossible to fix without spending a lot of money and I may end up back at work place by the time I get the stuff. I used my back brace - that appeared to help.

Hilarious. Reddit keeps posting videos and there's a little tag line that video has been removed via the moderators for bad content, yet the video is still there - and I'm always a tad perplexed as to why that notice appears at all - how is this bad content? So, I read through the comments in an attempt to figure out why people were offended.

3. The Glinda/Elsphaba zoom sing-a-long of the song "For Good" from Wicked made me cry - in a good way

Honestly, the entertainers are so bored - and so stir crazy with the need to entertain - they are all doing zoom entertainment gatherings on YouTube. It's actually the silver lining of this thing, assuming there is one.
