1. New York vs. the Slimeball in the White House
Well...it's official, Crazy Agency let me know today that I get tomorrow off - as a state paid holiday. All Crazy Agency employees, union and non-union, get it off as a paid holiday, and no, it's not eligible as a floating holiday. So, they didn't wait until next year - New York made Juneteenth a holiday for all its employees NOW or as of today. As I told Chidi, "we don't know what's going to happen next, we just found out we get tomorrow off as a paid holiday, literally today or one day ago. The 2020 roller coaster ride continues".
Also, Go Team#NewYork! Team#NewYork rocks!
( social justice links, the slimeball in the white house, governor's press conference, and job opportunities in social justice that I flirt with )
2. Working from home..
Anyhow, Day 93...was responding to emails, and ignoring emails. Also watching the people behind me lower more garbage into the backyard space which could be lovely if the building owners had a wit of sense. That space now has more bags of debris, a headboard to a bed, a chair, and whole lot of broken wooden furniture. Making me wonder what they were clearing out, why, and why it had to be thrown behind the building. I'm praying they clean it up within the next few weeks. If they don't I may file a complaint with the city's 311 hotline - as health and environmental waste violation.
( Here's a picture to show I'm NOT exaggerating )
3. New York vs. the Coronavirus
The Governor came on the telly, and thanked the press for giving him a large enough soap box that he was actually able to convey to a large group of people state and nationwide the severity of the Coronavirus and how best to protect themselves. Then he went into a very informative and thoughtful spiel on the Tale of Two Countries - one that is taking the Coronavirus seriously and hunkering down, while the other isn't. The states, counties, and towns that took it seriously and enforced mask wearing, social distancing, hand-washing, sanitizers - are the ones with no cases, few cases, or have crushed the curve. Massachutus, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Conneticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island...all have decreases in cases. They were the hardest hit in April, and now they've come down considerably and crushed the curve.
In our latest edition of New York vs. the Coronavirus - New York has won. We have a 1.4% infection rate in New York at the moment, despite the random nitwits who are ignoring the Governor and doing whatever they please.
My brother texted me a video of the area he stayed in and had lived in Oahu, Hawaii - which is a small county and among the few with no cases of the virus. They have no cases because everyone wears masks, social distances, and those who don't get booted out. One tourist didn't and they were sent home by the community. They've enforced it. I kind of envied them today, and wished I could live in that community. Mine is populated with random nitwits who feel inclined to act as if there is no pandemic and they don't have to behave any differently than before. I really want to hand out a few Darwin Awards.
4. General Health and Well-Being
Other than that? I'm actually in a good mood today. Got a few things done. Looking forward to vegging tomorrow, and sleeping in. I've not been getting enough sleep - although I'm getting a lot more sleep than I did prior to the lock-down. Also I appear to be less stressed out, I'm eating better, taking longer walks, and my allergies aren't quite as bad.
Per Doctor's appointment? ( Read more... )
Kind of looking forward to just working on my novel tomorrow. Might even take another walk through Greenwood Cemetery - possibly a longer one depending on the weather. ( Read more... )
The one thing that I've observed on my walks through the Cemetery that I find...befuddling is the vast number of people who walk with ear plugs or earphones. Why? You can't hear the birds. You don't see all the interesting bits of life around you. I get wanting to shut stuff out on a subway, or a train, or on a city street...but why in a green space, with trees, birds, statues, headstones, and grass? I like to take a break from it.
People continue to bewilder me. It's bewildering how many people take this beautiful planet we all live on for granted. They don't really seem to appreciate it. Or see it. So busy with all these distractions. They don't take the time to pause and listen to birds, watch a robin, or a white tailed hawk fly through the sky, or stare at a flower. This world is only ours for a short period of time. It's temporary. I'm trying hard not to waste it. Walking through a cemetery more than anything else, makes me aware of that lack of permanence. Everything is constantly changing - every day, the trees, and flowers, and grass are slightly different than the day before. While the song on the ipod doesn't change - it's the same song.
I wonder sometimes what people would do ...if the distractions ceased? Create new ones, I suppose.
