So, apparently the metroformin didn't result in a loss of weight - the exact opposite in fact. Which puzzled both me and the doctor. Our guess is water weight gain. But really don't know why I regained the ten pounds I lost in two months. It bothered the doctor - who stated that it made no sense.
I foresee another painful elimination diet in my future.
I told her I went off the metroformin. Which she wasn't happy about, but understood and stated that she would change the dosage to 180 instead of 500, and not the extended release. And build me up to the 500 slowly.
I'm ceiliac according to this doctor - and she's treating me as such - which means absorbancy can be an issue, along with weird fluctuations in weight.
But she is concerned about the thyroid. And insisted I set up a gynecologist exam. I did - turns out her referral takes my insurance and can see me at 4pm next Friday. Also her referral works within the same office - which is near me. I've decided to go with doctors who work together and know each other - because going the other route has not worked. Also, my gynecologist disappeared on me without a trace. (I kid you not - she did. I called for a followup and her phone was disconnected. I've had the worst luck with gynecologists.)
Yes, today was the doctor's appointment. I despise doctor's appointments. I have to fast - so I'm starving. They make me wait forever with a mask on no less. (Although I did pull it down when I was alone in the room. After the exam, I was left alone for a little bit to eat an energy bar - then without warning the idiotic nurse or assistant came back in, and I had to turn my back to her. Pull up the mask. Put down the bar, and get out. She completely ignored me and continued working. I went to the bathroom, and finished the energy bar in enclosed private bathroom. Then packed up and scheduled the future appointments.
The good news is that the blood pressure is down - possibly due to the relief of three major stressors. But I have a feeling my sugar levels are unreliable.
Doctor is located in Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill area or old nieghborhood. It's more crowded than new nieghborhood, but everyone is wearing masks. More people were wearing masks in that area than where I am now. Also lots of lines today. There was a line out the door at the Fish Place - which also looked crowded. (I avoided). A line out the door at the meat/rotesseri deli - I thought for a minute it was for the City MD Urgent Care Facility - which does the testing. No, that line was even longer, it went around the block - and I chose to skip it. (I'm not going anywhere, I'm not visiting anyone, and I have no symptoms - so no real need for a test. The Doctor confirmed it - I was exhibiting less symptoms than usual - no cough, no runny nose, nada. Before you even enter the doctor's office - you have to answer a barrage of questions and have your temperature taken. Is it odd that I'm getting used to this?)
The line to the Union Court Grocery wasn't bad, it was better than the other three lines. Also, not too bad in the store, although I had to keep circumventing staff who felt the need to wander about.
Picked up a gluten-free pumpkin pie, and some veggies. Also dairy free and corn syrup free whip cream. Along with unsweetened iced green tea, kombucha, water bottle, parmesene, bacon, lobster meat from Maine - the pie was also from Maine, and that was about it.
Lugged it onto the subway - which was relatively empty - about five to six people per car if that. All wearing masks. Didn't see any maskless wonders this round on the subways. More New Yorkers were following the protocol than previously. And the subways continue to be insanely clean. If there's a silver lining to this crisis - it's clean subways.
By the way? I've not seen ANY violence of ANY kind in NYC. Not in Brooklyn. Not in my area. If it's there - it's not prevalent and not in my area. I keeps seeing people who don't live here discussing it - but I don't see it and I live here. It would kind of be like me posting vids of violence and civil unrest in the UK - but I've not been there since 1987. (Although if niece gets into London School of Economics - I may make a trip. I love the UK.)
