Lots of pesky busy work done today. Also navigating around maskless wonders.

Laundry was a bit of a chore. I got home around 5:15, down to the basement at 5:30, and someone had grabbed two of the machines. I did however end up having a long chat with the super's wife, Monica (whose Polish), who informed me that she and her husband caught the porch pirate. The porch pirate held a gun on them.

Monica: We told him to put back the packages and we were calling the police. He turned around and pointed a gun at us.
Me: Whoa. Let him take the packages.
Monica: We did. (Obviously, because she's talking to me.)
Me: Good. You're worth more than a couple of packages.
Monica: I want to protect my tenants goods but..
ME: No, getting killed isn't worth it. They can reorder or get reimbursed for stolen items.
Monica: Amazon is now threatening not to reimburse or send, because they are losing a lot of money. Someone lost an electric bike. He took it.

An electric bike is pretty heavy. I have waited for him to pick it up then found a box, and walloped the man on the head. Grabbed his gun and kicked him ten times in the groin. (Probably wouldn't have - I can't bring myself to kill a house mouse. I'm using mint again to fend off the critters.)

Anyhow, they have security footage. And apparently when they put up the sign warning folks about him, the man came by, took it down, and threatened them. On top of this, they'd had their van broken into various times, and tools stolen. The police caught the guy, but the guy changed his hair style hoping to confuse the judge - which he did, and they couldn't prove it was the same guy, so he was released. Apparently this has happened 87 times.
The crime in my area has risen since the pandemic apparently - which is why I'm careful at night. Don't buy too much, and have reduced the number of online purchases. My family isn't sending packages for Xmas this year. None of us really want anything.

But this story is kind of why I voted for Eric Adams, a former cop and a black man. He gets both sides of the problem. It's also why I'm not for "defunding the police" or "letting everyone out of prison" - which my church wants to do, because its convinced all convictions are racist. (Not true, some assholes actually deserve to be there. I know I did defender project, the folks I defended committed their crimes. It's not nearly as clear cut as folks like to make out to be on either side of the divide.)

Apparently the electric outtage on Friday is going to be in 20 minute intervals, and isn't actually all day long - much as predicted and similar to the last time they did it. I've switched out the days - I'm taking Monday off instead of Friday. Also did my laundry tonight instead of Thursday or Friday because of it.

It's a nightmare for the super, because a lot of the tenants don't speak English well or at all. We have an international apartment complex - it's NY - we have Polish, Russian, Bengali, Yiddish, Korean, Chinese, Pakistani,
Carribbean, and the rest of us. I like international buildings, keeps me honest. I've found it to be safe enough - I mean, the super has seen all this crime, but I haven't, thankfully (knocks on wood - literally, I just knocked on wood. )

Mother informed me on the phone that they've just reported that the Pfizer Booster is VERY effective against the Omicron variant. This is a relief.
I was admittedly worried. (I don't have COVID. Every time I talk to mother now, she notices that I'm no longer congested. Dusting my apartment apparently did the trick. Hmm. I may buy myself a new robo vacuum after the holidays.)

I'm getting along with BYT manager, which is a good thing. work crap )

On the commute ride home - caught two maskless wonders on the subway. (Less of this on the commuter trains). Subways though? It's not that many. Just a handful. So should be grateful. Less people wear them in the apartment complex - but I get that - you can wander about alone in that place and not see a soul for an hour. I saw a ton of folks today - all without masks on, but again I got why. I had one on at all times - tonight a KN95. And during the day a KN94.

Soap Twitter mentioned fanfic. One gal stated for people who don't read it - they should. Some of the GH fanfic is better than what's on the show. And I thought this is kind of true of a lot of fanfic and television or books or movies. It's also why I stopped reading a lot of fanfic associated with shows or books or movies I follow. The reason is simple - if I prefer the fanfic, I'm more critical and less tolerant of what's on the show, my expectations are raised to get what's well in the fanfic. I'm unfairly comparing it to something written by a fan that has no clue what the shows writers, actors, collaborators are thinking, and has the privilege of writing something on their own time, with no deadlines, no pressure, and no collaborators criticizing them or an audience ripping it apart.

I usually read fanfic when I get obsessed and want to see things I know I can't see on the screen. OR I get curious about how someone else sees it. Often it's just plain old fashioned curiosity.

My eclectic taste is a product of my curiosity. I'm a curious person - I am interested in what others think about things, what motivates them, why they do what they do, what they love, what they hate, and why that is. People, in general, I find interesting. I like people, even when I want to smack them upside the head, like I did today.

Or sometimes just off.

Like today, when Jay was telling me about a televangelist, Lamb, who thought COVID was a hoax and was telling his congregants to not get vaccinated.

Jay: He recently died of COVID.
Me: Good.
Jay: Now, now, we don't want him dead. But he was giving out this horrible message..
Me: Hence the Good.

Sigh. My patience is gone on this topic. Ex-cubicle mate and BYT both contracted COVID, along with Jay, and brain fog is a problem. Actually I have brain fog - but mine is probably linked to menopause and the pandemic.
