My Dad turned 86 today. Mother called me from the Preston (long term care facility) prior to their dinner - so I could wish him a Happy Birthday. I sent him a card, with any luck he'll get it.

They tied balloons to his wheelchair, and she brought him quiches, and a carrot cake. Although he preferred the ice cream. They ate in the dining room by themselves - everyone else apparently eats in their rooms. (So does my Dad usually.) According to mother, my Dad sees me all the time. I certainly hope parallel universe me is happy. He sounded lucid at least, and somewhat apologetic for forgetting things, also kind of cracked a joke about it. My father makes fun of his situation - it's apparently genetic, this kind of offbeat sense of humor we all have - cracking wise at calamity.

Wales wants to see me before I leave. I asked, once again, if we could put it off until I get back. I'm trying to self-isolate as much as is reasonably possible prior to flying down to see mother. (Work, commute, and my apartment complex are not cooperating with me. The folks at work are not great at wearing masks constantly or good masks. Chidi's rarely covers his nose. (What's up with that?) I've learned not to say anything. I can just control me. But at least my co-workers and fellow commuters are making an effort (they kind of have to - federal mandate, hello) but the folks in the laundry room and apartment complex? Not so much.)

I came home in pain. Shoulders and neck burning. So took a hot shower, took an aleve, and put on a heating pad. It worked. No longer feel ill from the pain, and its dissipated. How much is sinus, stress, or sitting hunched over a computer - I've no clue. Except they hurt less at home.

There's a rumor that management may throw us back on the hybrid schedule on January 5, depending on the COVID numbers in NY, which aren't looking great. They are on the rise, again. New York figured out in 2020 that the trick to beating COVID was to not let the hospitals get overrun. So they check the cases, death rates, ICU beds, and hospitalizations - paying close attention to hospitalization.

Apparently there are places to get tested outside of my workplace. 1) Atlantic Terminal has a rapid test mobile outside, 2)the Urgent care next to the subway does it, 3) the airports have it at various terminals.

Co-workers said that they did not require a test flying domestically or within the continental US. This has been backed up by friends and family.

Making headway through the Murderbot Diaries - which is an interesting mystery/thriller - from the perspective of a self-described Murder Bot or Security Unit. I rather like the writing, which is kind of snarky and tongue in cheek. Also, it doesn't require a great deal of attention to detail.

Letita Wright (Shuri) of Black Panther refuses to get the vaccine and no longer interested in being part of the Marvel Universe.

Actress Letitia Wright has publicly faced many obstacles in 2021. There have been controversies surrounding a social media post she made (and later deleted) about COVID-19 vaccinations. Then, in August 2021, she suffered an injury on the set of Black Panther 2. That injury was at first believed to be minor, but was recently revealed to have caused her ongoing health issues. So much so that currently, Black Panther 2’s production has been put on hold until 2022 while she recovers. This has led to many questions surrounding her future as Shuri. Now, the actress herself may have one. Our trusted and proven inside source has told us Letitia Wright allegedly doesn’t want to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe because she is unwilling to get the vaccine.

* Meanwhile there's contradictory and confusing media reports regarding Pfizer and the latest variants, do we need three or four shots? Depends on who you talk to, apparently. The problem with the virus is it keeps mutating every time it spreads, we get new variants and need new vaccines.
People who haven't gotten vaccinated want to hold off because they don't want to keep getting vaccines. But because they refuse to get a vaccine, the virus infects them, mutates, and here we all are. Sigh, humans are stupid, I'm amazed we're not extinct.

Twitter asks...Can a fanbase make you hate a character?

Yes. Some are so toxic that yes, they can. I struggled with Angel for a long time. I loved the character until I entered the fandom. Some of The Angel fans were so toxic and so hypocritical that I hated the character at times because I couldn't stand the fans. It wasn't until I started avoiding them that I liked the character again, same with Xander fans, actually.

Also, had problems with Rose Tyler fans in the Doctor Who fandom.

And I like this statement that I found on Twitter : "Never be a prisoner of your past, it was just a lesson, not a life sentence."

Somewhat big news...Leticia James decided not to step down as Attorney General, and cancelled her run for Governor. She's decided taking down the Doofus is more important. It should be - she's been gearing up to do so since 2015. Also, she took down Cuomo, now she needs to take down Trump. Cuomo was just the pre-liminary act or the appetizer, Trump is the main course. And the AG of NY has the power to seize Trump's assets - and 90% of his wealth is tied up in NY.

Most of Trump's wealth is tied to assets in New York. All are subject to seizure by the AG's Office if he fails to comply with subpoenas here.

And the stuff that I've read that come out about the insurrection and the GOP's inept plan to steal power - again why are these idiots still alive?

Universe? Drop a big rock on them and be done with it. This is just painful. And kind of repetitive.
