Asked for March 9th off next week. Just March 9th, because I've proposals coming in on Friday, and I want to ensure there aren't any issues.

See? I'm a good little employee. (Not that anyone cares.) Well that and I have boss PTSD, which most likely explains my distrust of authority figures.

Today wasn't too bad - spent most of the day trying to help Chidi and AA. AA had helped me yesterday, so I was trying to help him today and failing miserably at it. He went through all the crap I did for a recent solicitation. But he was in a good humor. AA is for the most part, a cheerful dude.

Current group of co-workers are actually easier to work with than previous group of co-workers - and I'm the oldest of the bunch. It's odd after 20 some years being among the youngest, to suddenly being the oldest. Welcome to the Fifties.

Mother advised or rather reminded me that she was turning 80 this year. And we both were shocked and dismayed that my niece is turning 18, when it seemed like just yesterday that she was 10. The years seem to blend together after a bit. And the period between 2020 and 2022 - lasted forever and a day.

Nothing appears to be getting better though. (Appearances however can be deceiving, and it all depends on one's point of view or perspective. Mother is better than she was last year at this time - on the other hand she's undergoing lots of dental surgery (replacement of her entire bridge in piecemeal fashion - yes, sounds tedious and painful, doesn't it?) and at the end of March - she's undergoing knee surgery. (She has bone on bone in regards to her left or right knee - I forget which just that it is the opposite knee from her hip (at least). It's arthritis. (Which she inherited from her mother - and I'll probably inherit as well - another reason not to take up running again. Running is horrible on knees. Actually it's horrible for the entire body - ask a physical therapist sometime. None worth their salt will recommend running as an activity. Walking yes. Bike Riding, yes. Swimming, yes. Running, no. One told me that "humans are not built to run - we don't have four legs. And even four legged creatures don't run for the dumb-ass reasons that we do.")

I've chosen to ignore the news. My blood pressure has gone down as a result, along with my anxiety. It's a blessed thing. As a result, I've little knowledge what is happening, and am glad of it. (Outside of mother, the internet and NY1 which like to inform me - when I'd prefer they didn't. Although now that my father is no longer interested in the news, mother isn't either or not as much - so she talks about it less.)

Covid

Today we all got the notice that we didn't have to wear masks inside the office any longer, but pretty much everywhere else. Not outside of course. But inside trains, buses, subways, etc. And inside the stations, lobbies and public areas.

Co-worker asked me how I was handling it. I told her I have an app on my phone that informs me of the COVID infection rates in the State, and in my area. Currently its at 1.93 in Brooklyn, but that's with only 66,000 people testing, and 1,290 testing positive. Previously - at the height of the surge, we had 366,000 testing, and over 66,000 testing positive. NY has over 19 million. Brooklyn has 1.8 million and some change. If you have a 1.93 infection rate with only 66,000 testing at all...that does not mean its safe. I'm waiting until the infection rate is 0%. Also, I've not gotten sick in two years (outside of when I visited my mother - which I'm not counting because I caught her cold - and neither of us were wearing a mask (also I was staying with her and in close proximity) - plus she caught it because she was in close proximity with folks and not wearing a mask. My father did not catch it - because we social distanced and did wear masks.)
So, I'm proof that masks work - if you are smart enough to wear the right kind of mask. (Note cheap blue surgical masks, scarves, cloth masks, and bandana's aren't going to cut it. It has to be KF94, KN95, or N95, or you might as well not bother.)

I took pity on BYT whose KF94 mask wasn't fitting her face (my face is bigger than hers). So I gave her a KN95 that I managed to get from Jay.

Also, add to the above analysis? As I told co-worker: "If we worked in an office in the suburbs - I'd say no need to wear masks indoors. But we work in a major transportation hub. There's a mass of homeless people outside who don't wear them at all. Not to mention all the international travelers coming in and out of the building, traveling on the trains and subways. It's a hotbed for a virus. Plus we're in a major city with over 8 million people in it. The population density alone should give you pause.. I'm continuing to wear a mask if I can't social distance."

I have a feeling the rest of or vast majority of my co-workers will do the same thing. Certainly most of the people in the city will.

It's late.
