1. Well, the news changed its mind this morning and said it was five idiots who took a submersible (The Titan) to see the Titanic Wreckage. (Apparently James Cameron has gone down 33 times prior to doing the film The Titantic.)

At any rate, I don't know if anyone has read Philip K. Dick's The Three Stigmata of Palmer K. Eldritch? But this article reminded me of a plot point in it, and I'm beginning to think we've all landed in Dick's scary future.

Extremism Tourism is Becoming a Trend
excerpt )
You know there are other ways you can spend this money. There were 300 people killed in the Mediterrean's worst disaster on record in a migrant boat accident
excerpt )

According to Mother, who'd been following it, the people who died were mainly women and children, the men survived. The women died because they stayed behind to save the children.

Now, $250,000 would have bought another boat, and helped prevent this tragedy.

Ugh. Anyhow, it is admittedly entertaining to mock them. And no, I do not feel guilty for mocking the nitwits who decided to tour the Titantic Wreckage on the ocean floor.

There's theories on what happened. The US Coast Guard still can't find them. They've not made it easy - the submersible is painted white. (Note, next time paint it neon pink or a color that can be seen - although they may have done that deliberately to hide from sea creatures.)

Three Theories on What Happened

excerpt containing the worst case scenario )
The other two scenarios aren't much better. Either sank and trapped in a trench with the Titanic on the bottom of the ocean floor, or surfaced and floating about in the ocean waiting to be seen.

2. In other news...

At crazy work place
political correctness in the work place - I honestly don't know why I bother )

Enough of that, let's ruthlessly mock Twitter:

In case you can't see that? Twitter is banning people who are insulting Greek Gods. (As an aside? They also do this to people who insult fictional soap opera characters...oh and apparently according EM - the words CIS and CISGENDER are considered insults now and usage will result you getting banned from Twitter.

In case you were wondering if intelligence is required to become a tech-billionaire? It's not. Thank you, Internet for confirming this.

And, for kicks and giggles...

learning is literally stealing from others. our knowledge comes from other people. with that logic, learning from teachers in school is stealing.

it's the same as with the calculator, it's a tool.

stop crying. and stop thinking you're hot shit and everything

So, I guess some artists don’t know ChatGPT has also been trained on copyright protected books, stories, lyrics, poems without consent or compensation? Or they just don’t care when it’s not their skin in the game?

Writers are artists and cultural workers too. We need solidarity.

There you have it, finally, established proof that "Troll" Logic actually exists, thank you, internet.

How is that these folks haven't gotten Darwin Awards yet? Dumb luck? Although Twitter has become a source of endless amusement for me. I admittedly have a wry and rather dark sense of humor.

3. Still in a reading slump. The Cat Sebastian Book isn't working. Maybe a TKingfisher? I've got two that I haven't read? Or maybe the Illona Andrews, which doesn't require much focus at all? The problem is me, not the books, folks. I am struggling with brain fog. I go to sleep on the train. And it takes me longer to do everything.

The audio book is fine...it doesn't require as much attention.

Burn it Down spends far too long going after Horatio Sanz, and various colleagues of his from SNL during the 1990s and early 00s. Read more... )

Then finally it moves on to Louis CK, who I already knew about. So far, most of this, I already knew about. (I didn't know about the Goldbergs or the Muppets...nor did I know everything that went down on Sleepy Hollow and Lost, but everything else, I knew about.) CK apparently came back after a bit of a self-imposed hiatus. Didn't apologize at all, and kind of just went on to do his act. (I don't know if he continued the masturbation bit or not. Honestly? Why would anyone do that? Isn't it embarrassing? Not to mention gross. What can you possibly get from doing this? Plus it shows a complete lack of self-control. IDK. I'm thinking we need to ruthlessly mock them. Or kick it? Or phase it with a phazer? That would probably work. Every time CK pulls out his wienie - phase it, he'd most likely stop eventually. )

After Louis CK, she starts talking to a Rabbi about Redemption and how to handle this sort of thing (I don't know why she felt a need to talk to a female Rabbi about this - I think the Rabbi wrote a book about it or something? Anyhow the Rabbi tells her everyone can be redeemed, but some don't want to be or think they need it. And the way forward is instead of saying you are sorry, ask how you can help or if the other person is okay), and then a psychologist who treats abusive and classic narcissistic disorders - and they go into detail on what a narcissist is, and the signs that someone is a narcissist. (Plays the victim, it's always everyone else's fault, never theirs, deflects blame, and feels a need to prove that they are superior to everyone else, a winner, and are entitled to success and rewards.) I kind of stopped there for today. I'm wondering if she's going to tackle Whedon in her book. She tackles Ezra Miller - who I also already knew about. And the enabling of various heavy weight assholes in Hollywood, who never atone for their mistakes (mainly because they are getting away with it, being enabled by others, and don't consider themselves any worse than anyone else. It's considered the norm - hence the problem.)
