Took Amtrak up to Hudson, NY to see my brother and his wife for the weekend on Friday morning, came back today. It's about a three and a half hour trip each way. Took two subways, a train and a car. Then, once up there, stayed with my brother and his wife in their lovely little house on eleven acres of wild meadow and forest groves.

Had one mishap - last night, when I wasn't being careful, and took a header down my brother's wooden spiral staircase leading from the upstairs guest room to the living room, and bathroom behind the kitchen. I ended up with a fat lip or swollen bruised lip on my right side, which is badly bruised and bruises on my the palm of my right hand. Also jarred my jaw a bit, with a bruise on it (which is hidden or appears to be, it is a bit sore to the touch though).

I basically tripped over the bottom steps and went flying across the room, I rolled, and ended up my side, or partially next to the fall room next to the kitchen. My smart watch wanted to know if I wanted it to contact anyone or emergency services - I spent a lot of time telling it - that no, I was find, and not to call anyone. My brother and his wife had darted up the steps from their bedroom - and asked in unison, "OMG, are you okay??"

I told them I was fine, and stumbled to my feet. (I lied, I wasn't. I felt a bit wobbly, slightly dazed, my lip was swollen, my palms hurt and I kind of stumbled to the bathroom - because I really had to go.)

The location of their bathroom and guest-room - had a been a concern of mine, prior to going up this round. Mainly because I go to the bathroom anywhere from two to eight times a night, depending. I'm constantly getting up - particularly if my blood sugar is thrown out of wack - which it often is during visits or trips where I end up eating a lot more carbs than usual.

Below is the spiral staircase from the vantage point of someone going down it, which I did about ten times last night, four prior to falling, and five after I fell. (I had drank too much water - and ate too many carbs, so my digestive system was highly operational.)

It made for a highly stressful night, and little to no sleep. That and the change to standard time, along with the stress of travel the next day, and other unrelated issues - I couldn't sleep at all. According to the smart watch - I slept, maybe two hours, if that. I couldn't give me any date, it said I was in bed two hours and twelves minutes and asleep for maybe two, and it had no clue how that broke down, if at all.

Other than that, no issues getting home - sis-in-law kindly drove me, she always takes the quick route through the bad part of town, where the housing projects are, while my brother takes the longer scenic route. She also has no issues taking me early, dropping me off, and letting me chill there. My need to get to places early drives my brother nuts.

Also, only major bruise that has shown up appears to be the one on my lip. And my jaw doesn't hurt at all, so it's most likely fine. Only the lip is a little sore, and the right palm.

Sis-in-law: If it gets worse - go to an urgent care in the city. I'd take you to one here - but they'd just tell you have syphilis.
Me: Syphilis?
Sis-in-law: I went to them with a rash and they told me I had syphilis.
Me: Is there a syphilis outbreak or something in the area?
Sis-in-law: apparently its on the rise.

(Wales found this bit hilarious for some reason - when I relayed it to her.)

I'd show you a picture of the bruised lip, but it looks awful. So here's a picture of my brother's old fluffy kitty instead. The kitty is 18 years old.

Off to bed. May share more photos of trip in another post tomorrow. I'm taking tomorrow off, have Tuesday off, and taking Wed off.
