Will be out of town and offline the next few days, back on Sunday. Off to see my little (as in younger) brother. He's not little, he is 6'5 and around 175 pounds give or take. And my sis-in-law, who is a mere 5'5, if that. He's about five to six inches taller than me.
Taking Amtrak to upstate New York to see him. It's about 2 hours, or 3 hours and 30 minutes. Four stops from Penn Station. Pretty trip alongside the Hudson River. Takes about an hour for me to get to the train station, and I should be there about thirty to forty-five minutes ahead of time, and then about thirty minutes to get to his place. So about four hours total. Don't know if driving a car would be shorter or longer, probably longer and more head-ache inducing, since they always take the train in. Train costs about $95, round-trip, coach.
Things I've learned on social media.
* Do not get into pissing matches on social media (ie. verbally debate, fight or argue - it never ends well. Doesn't keep me from doing it, unfortunately.)
* When attempting to persuade someone - tell a story, preferably a relatable one, don't lecture, dictate, or show-off your knowledge or provide a resume, it rarely works. (This I continue to learn the hard-way, also I've learned from other people making similar mistakes - which while reassuring in a way, is also aggravating.)
* Before posting something - try to ask yourself - is it kind, is it necessary, and does it help. (I'm not sure this works in all scenarios.)
* Be curious. (which sometimes works and sometimes gets me in trouble - curiosity killed the cat is not an empty saying).
* Don't believe everything you read - some people are lying. (Unfortunately.)
Memage:
3. Is there anything you have seen on TV or a streaming service that you have enjoyed this year and would recommend that other people watch?
Hmm. I enjoyed Slow Horses - which I'll continue with (it's on Apple), Wolves (Brad Pitt/George Clooney Action/Buddy Comedy - Apple), Scavenger's Reign (animated series on Netflix and HBO MAX), Bridgerton S3 (although I think you need to see S1-2 for it to work, also on Netflix). And I'm enjoying Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix).
4. On this day in 1922 Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun – have you ever seen any of the treasures?
Yes, multiple times in various museums. They keep going on tour every few years. I saw it in Met last round, and I think I saw it in the British, and in the Neilsen Art Museum in KC.
5. Do you like fireworks displays, or are they just annoying at this time of year? Have you ever made your own fireworks display at home?
I like them when they are not near me? I don't own pets so don't find them to be that annoying. Best one I ever saw was in Portland, Oregon on the Fourth of July, while standing on a bridge, second best one was in France, one the beach during Bastille Day - July 16 or 14, I think, can't remember and too lazy to look it up.
6. Pockets or a handbag/purse? Are you guilty of carrying things you don’t need in a bag because you haven’t decluttered for a while?
I carry backpacks most of the time. And if not a backpack - a purse/bag. I live in NYC - pockets are tenuous at best. I need to have my phone, kindle, wallet, keys... Also it's hard to get good pockets on women's jeans and pants.
