Watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade via NBC, it's only on NBC this year.Read more... )

Made the corn muffins for later today. I'm thinking we'll probably eat around 3:30-4pm. It doesn't take that long to make tacos and heat up the tamales and refried beans. Also, I think the pie is pre-made and frozen, so shouldn't take that long to heat up.

I'm doing a Mexican Food Thanksgiving as a change of pace.

Co-worker: What are you doing for Thanksgiving?
Me: Mexican food, tamales (pre-made and frozen - I just have to heat up), chicken tacos. It's nice and easy.
Co-worker: There's a really good restaurant near you. I can give you the number and address -
Me: No, I'm happy with my Thanksgiving menu. I don't want to go to a restaurante or get take out.

I know I'm weird. But I don't like the typical Thanksgiving fare. I did depress myself hunting for a gluten-free pie. There are none at Met Fresh. They have sugar free pies, and regular pies in all flavors known to humans. But gluten-free? Nah.

Wales found one in her area - pumpkin. It's pre-baked. You just thaw over night, or throw in the oven quickly to heat up and it's ready. (I'd have gotten the cranberry/apple, it's better. But she prefers pumpkin and at least it's small.)

It's Raised Gluten Free Vegan Pies. There's two gluten-free orgs that sell pies in my area. One is the Maine Pie Company - their pies are uncooked, and frozen, you take them out and cook. Raised are pre-cooked, and frozen, you defrost and serve. (Or pop in the oven for fifteen minutes and serve.)

My dinner?

Mother may out-do me, she's going a friend's family gathering in South Carolina, and they are having Sauerbraten - which is their traditional Thanksgiving dish.

Grateful for?

* Wales
* Mother
* Bro, Sisinlaw, and Niece
* an extended family that did not vote for that horrible reality star
* a well-paying job
* rain (we do need it)
* a nice apartment (if a tad overheated, I have the a/c on, the window open, and the fan on, could be worse - could be freezing like yesterday, when it was 66)
* television working at the moment (it's been off and on lately, hence the reason I have a technician coming tomorrow to fix it.)
* books
* a beautiful world (now if the annoying people would stop polluting it, that would be nice too?)

Finished the Thanksgiving meal and entertaining with Wales. Grateful for that, we both were, considering we'd been estranged from 2009 to roughly 2018. I found a way to get past it and open up that door again. I'm grateful that I did.

Sometimes not always, it's good to forgive and forget. And to let go of the past. Holding onto it hasn't ever served me well. I can't speak for anyone else. We're all different after all.

Wales brought the pumpkin pie and margaritas (they come in cans now), and the whipped cream (which was unnecessary - since I had plenty already), while I provided everything else (tacos, tamales, refried beans, cheese, guacamole, salsa, lettuce, tomatoes and corn bread muffins). Also I was right, Wales could only do one taco, one tamale, a little refried beans, and one corn bread muffin. Plus one piece of pie. To be fair, I couldn't do more than that either. I have taco shells, shredded cheese, chips, salsa, quac, lettuce, corn bread muffins, half a margarita and pie left over. I gave Wales the refried beans, the tomatoes and the whipped cream she brought.

What is Thanksgiving without left overs?

We watched Thelma based on an actual incident that happened to the director/writer's grandmother Thelma Post.

A 93 year old woman tracks down the people who scammed her, in order to take them down and get her money back.

Stars June Squib, Richard Roundtree, Clark Gregg, Parker Posey, Malcolm McDowell.

Also the Great British Baking Show - Holiday Edition.

Wales asked about watching The Apprentice - "The Apprentice is a 2024 biographical film that examines Donald Trump's career as a real estate businessman in New York City in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as his relationship with attorney Roy Cohn. Directed by Ali Abbasi and written by Gabriel Sherman, the film stars Sebastian Stan as Trump, Jeremy Strong as Cohn, Martin Donovan as Trump's father Fred, and Maria Bakalova as Trump's first wife, Ivana. "

I nixed it. Although it's not available on streaming anyhow, it's only available in theaters. But hard pass.

Me: What do you need to find out? We already know all of it.
Wales: Jeremy Strong is to play Cohn.
Me: Who? I don't even know him.

Honestly, I will be very grateful when that evil man goes away. And I never have to hear his name or see him or hear him ever again. Wales is obsessed with the political situation.

Me: We can't do anything about it - I choose to ignore it. I have enough things to worry about that I can't do anything about.
Wales: No, we can do things -
Me: Well yes, but limited.

I chose to watch Thelma, and get her away from reading substack political posts.

Watching Mary Poppins at the moment for the fiftieth time. The Optimum technician is coming tomorrow - hopefully he'll give me NY1 and a new box. I'd rather not have to cancel the cable the subscription just yet.
