* I decided the last few days, that everyone else's journals were more interesting than mine - or whatever I had to jot down - so I responded to theirs instead. It's also less time-consuming.

* My poor little novel (actually not so little) has been put on hold again due to work stress. Work has taken on a life of it's own. It is the fourth quarter, and the project team procrastinated per usual, and didn't get anything to us to procure until well the least few months.

Add to all this? Technology has decided to go wonky.

I've been struggling with "sharepoint" or "sharefile" via Microsoft's One Drive off and on all week. Crazy Org does everything through Microsoft (well outside of the contracts/purchasing database - which is the antiquated PeopleSoft. Shhh, don't tell them.)

Example one:

I shared a file with the bidder's, containing their contract documents, Also uploaded it, to ensure they all had access.

Consultant who works with the Bidder's calls me: Uhm, there's something wonky with the link. When I click on it - it doesn't work, but when I hit the go back button - I can see everything for the contract, including the estimate.

Me: WTF??? Oh no! This is bad. How did it happen - I didn't do that. (I go to sharefile, check it, can't figure out what happened, then I think I do, and while he's on the phone - delete the file.) Did it go away?

Consultant: Oh, it did. It's completely gone now. Can't see it at all.

I learn later - that there's a better way of determining this - just hit Share - then manage access. (Or I figure that out later on my own.)

Example 2:

Contractor: Uhm, I can't upload anything to the link that you sent.
Me: Okay that's weird. Everyone else could. Let me check. (I check the email and repeat it to him).
Contractor: Yes, that is our email.
Me: I don't understand why it won't work.
Contractor: it keeps asking for access to be accepted, and says it hasn't been.
Me: I know - I click on it and it takes me nowhere. Hmm, maybe the email is wonky? Or the browser?
Contractor: I can try another browser?
Me: Let's do that. Also another email?
Contractor: (Spells out his boss and his own emails, which I insert, after killing the prior link) Hopefully that'll work.
Me (I copy and share new link with him): try it now.
Contractor: It works.
Me: Thank god. I'll give you a little more time to upload - it's not your fault the link wasn't working.

75% of my job is customer service, also dealing with a wide variety of people. Many of them I do not understand. They have thick Indian, Russian, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Korean, Polish, etc accents. I hand-wave it - because I know English is their fourth language or third language, and it's my only language. They are way ahead of me in the language olympics.

Contractor: The vendor portal isn't working - can you do something?
I forward him to the people who can - along with my manager and an expert.
There's a lot of back and forth, it turns out that it isn't my project but a colleagues. Still a lot of back and forth. They do fix it - but not necessarily for him.

Anyhow, that's only three examples, there are many. After playing with One Drive - I know how to work it now, more or less. It is wonky. It doesn't like it if you try to share files multiple times with multiple people. Once, yes, but five to six times, no. Also doesn't like it when I rename files or name them anything lengthy.

* I've added people who ban books to my extremely long list of folks that I truly wish would win Darwin Awards before the end of the year. Doesn't have to be complicated. I'm so tired of the whiny people, who are upset that they lost the culture wars. Yes, you lost, deal with it, move on. Stop being a hateful idiot. Or the Universe will eventually smite you. (Read somewhere recently that the Universe didn't like being named constantly as at fault, or causing vengeance. Felt humanity should shoulder most of the blame on this one.)

* Have a 3 day weekend - union dictated. Not everyone has one, but most of my floor does. While renamed Indigenous Peoples Day - it's still considered Columbus Day by my Italian-Irish Union. They'd have tried to get St. Patrick's Day off if they could get away with it - but clearly the Ialians had more sway in that department. Part of me is happy, part of me - is thinking about all of the work I need to do. In the past, I took Friday off as a Personal Day - giving myself a four day weekend. But this Friday had two meetings I had to host on MS Teams, and a Training Session on Zoom.
[This is one of the many reasons I don't do that in my personal life.]

I need a breather, before a difficult work week - they are beginning to feel like running marathons, and visiting mother (which is next weekend).

I am hating on the book banning idiots more than ever since they started going after teachers.
