I shouldn't but...this was a fun Meme that I swiped from slaymesoftly:
1. New Year's Day is the first day of January in the Gregorian Calendar. Samuel Pepys began his diary on January 1st 1660 - have you ever kept a handwritten diary?
Yes. I kept one from the age of nine to the age of roughly thirty-five or six. Then I discovered live journal, and that was well that. Writing in live journal and now dreamwidth kind of wedded the handwritten journal to the letter. Creating an interactive journal writing experience that I prefer - and enhances my writing or makes it better?
Also, I whine less. (Believe it or not.)
2. Today is Science Fiction Day - are you a fan, and if so, what is your favourite book, film or TV series?
Yes. Sigh, it's a long list. I don't think I can pick just one? I go through phases. Favorite sci-fi television series is still Farscape, although I did love BSG, LOST, Star Trek : Picard, Doctor Who episodes, Children of Earth, and The Expanse.
Books? Maria Doria Russell's The Sparrow and Children of God. Also, Sherri Teppar's Grass. I have a fondness for Frank Herbert's Dune, and Heinlein's The Cat Who Walked Through Walls. Philip K Dick's The Three Stigmata of Palmer K. Eldritch haunts me (particularly now - it's too prophetic for its own good), and I've an odd fondness for Alfred Bester's Demolished Man (the precursor for A Clockwork Orange).
Film? Star Wars, Blade Runner, Empire Strike's Back,
3. Festival of Sleep Day is a whimsical and lighthearted holiday dedicated to the joys of sleep and relaxation. It's a day when people are encouraged to take a break from their busy lives and catch up on some much-needed rest. What would be your favourite thing to do on this day?
Sleep?
4. Today is World Trivia Day - popular culture often has obscure trivia - is there anything that you've noticed recently?
I've been playing Jeopardy on my phone....there's an insane amount of obscure trivia residing in my brain, like what Tern's eat. And that Crayola created pink flamingo as a color.
5. It's National Bird Day - have you ever been bird-watching and can you recognise many birds local to your area?
No. But I'm hoping to do it with Wales - bought her a ton of bird books for her birthday.
6. In 1945 Pepé Le Pew, the cartoon character was created by Chuck Jones and Michael Maltese, and voiced by Mel Blanc. Are you a fan of the character?
Oddly yes. My favorite Looney Tunes Characters are odd ones: Pepe, Wile E Coyote, Daffy Duck, and Sylvester. I was always rooting for the wrong characters - this I know. It made watching the cartoons an exceedingly stressful and frustrating experience at times.
7. National Old Rock Day celebrates the history of the Earth - back in the day, you could buy tumblers to polish your own rocks/stones. Have you ever done that?
No, but. my grandparents were into it. My grandmother made jewelry from them.
8. It's World Typing Day - can you touch type using all your fingers? If not, do you wish you could?
Yes, doing it now. I took typing in school. I grew up during a time period in which all you had were type-writers, and took typing in school as a course. I owned a type-writer as a kid. And up until roughly my junior/senior year in college - wrote all my papers by typing or long-hand.
9. Joan Baez was born on this day in 1941 - do you have a favourite of her songs?
Yes. She does some fantastic covers of other people's songs. But my favorite of her's is Diamonds and Rust which is a song about Bob Dylan.
Note she also does a great cover of Dylan's lesser song, "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" which is about Joan Baez.
10. It's the start of the Lunar Chinese New Year - the year of the Dragon. Do you know your Chinese zodiac animal?
Uhm, no? I suppose I could look it up.
Hmm, it's either the Sheep or the Goat.
Sheep / Goat is the eighth in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The Years of the Sheep include 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015, 2027, 2039, 2051...
Sheep (goat, or ram) is among the animals that people like most. It is docile, mellow, and timid. The white cute creature often reminds people of beautiful things. In Chinese culture, the sheep is considered auspicious since long time ago and it was often used to offer sacrifices and pray for good fortune. It was also once served as currency in ancient times, and thus the sheep represents rich and lucky.
People born in the Year of the Sheep are gentle, calm, and decent, while sometimes they can be naive and emotional.
