One of the things I've learned in life. We have no control over other people, what they do, what they think, how they react, whether they like us or hate us, or love us. None. We have no way of knowing what is inside another person's head or why - unless they tell us and even then? It will most likely be misunderstood. We don't know what will trigger them? What makes them crazy? What will piss them off? Sometimes, maybe, most of the time? Not really. It's best to accept this fact, and be okay with it.

1. The Soap fandom is batshit crazy. And Twitter doesn't help with the crazy. I thought the other fandoms were bad, but they've nothing on Soap fans.

Fandom: How dear he criticize our beloved Anna for not being there for Robin! She was always there! She was a good parent.
Me: Eh, ponders if any of the characters are good parents on this show outside of Mac? Anna was presumed dead, so absent while Robin in high school. Carly? Kept marrying Sonny. Liz?
JM: How dare you! Anna was dead, it wasn't her fault. She was a good parent!
Me: Uh, okay...look you can be a bad parent due to no fault of your own.
JM: So being dead makes you a bad parent? Interesting.
Me: No. Absent. She put other things first like her dangerous career.
JM: She got kidnapped, and etc...
Me: Look, I'm backing away now. I started watching in the 90s, Anna was presumed dead when Robin was in high school..
JM: It helps if you actually know the history of the characters!
ME: Well, it's a sixty-year soap opera, with no content readily available except for maybe the past two weeks, and content removed constantly from youtube. Also with writers who retcon it constantly. So, kind of difficult.
JM: You can ask fans with archival content to provide it!
ME: I'd get their perspective on the events, so unless you have a free archival source I can access -

It kept going. She would not stop.

Me: Look I think you are over-reacting to my tweet. Also, why do you care what I think? There's an evil marketing guru running for President and you care about this? Really?
JM: Anybody discussing this on social media would care - people should be critiqued and so should characters for saying the wrong things, and outted.
(Basically she's nominated herself the character police for the fandom.)
You shouldn't be allowed to say that.
JM: And who really cares would - from soaps to Kafka.
Me: No. Some people care. Some just like to objectively analyze, and discuss the work. And figure it out. Can we just agree to disagree and still be friends. Can't I just love the character of Anna & see Jaggar's perspective at the same time?

[That's how I left it. Then I just left Twitter and I'll probably stay off of it for the rest of the week. I only have a few people I really like on it anyhow, maybe five?]

I have feeling that I can't do that from her perspective. Everyone has to see it her way. She's right, we're wrong. There are a lot of bullies on Twitter. It's a very toxic platform and Musk has just made it worse.

I sneaked a peek? And I'm right I can't. She responded with : "you quote tweeted someone else's and here we are". I decided to ignore her - and not respond. We don't know each other. I put relatively little of my personal life on Twitter.

All I wanted was to discuss the soap, be snarky, and see spoilers.

I really despise fans who have nominated themselves the "resident expert" or "fandom police" - or "morality police". I want to smack them upside the head. Seriously? Everyone watches television differently. Some only see one character, others all of them, and with a long-running television show with over 5,000 episode and sixty some years of content? People come into it at different times. Even the writers don't know all of it.

Fandom's with limited and readily available content are rather easy, and far less insane or toxic. Because everyone has access to the same content.
Better yet - was watching a show live with just reruns and VHS, because we all more or less watched it the same way. With occassional missed episodes - which would color judgement.

But even then? People watch it differently. Some watch it while cooking dinner, or surfing the net or doing something else, with it running in the background, other's are glued to it, other's transcribe it, other's watch it more than once. And people see different things. You can watch some television shows multiple times - and see something different each time.
And a character you may have loved five years ago, you dislike now or vice versa. No two people see the same show.

Even family members see it differently. My brother and I both watched Buffy, along with my niece, we all had completely different takes and responses to it.

You have to be tolerant of that, I think? Let someone see it differently than you do without slamming them for it. So what if they love a character who you perceived as horrible and toxic? They didn't. It's fiction. (I used to have that fight with nutty Buffy and Angel fans all the time. They'd get morally superior about a fictional vampire in love with a slayer on an American television series airing on UPN. LOL!) Just because you find a morally bankrupt character on a television series fascinating doesn't make you a bad person. Not everyone views fictional characters the same. Or watches television the same way or for the same reasons. I happen to like twisted anti-heroes in fiction. They are more interesting to me, and I'm critical of fiction. So what if people see flaws in a character you view as flawless? It's fiction. Ugh, people can be annoying.

Oh, Michael Val Jean has been tagged to write a new "all Black" soap opera, The Gates.

CBS and the NAACP are developing a new daytime soap opera under their content partnership.

The series, currently titled “The Gates,” would air on the CBS Television Network with the CBS Studios NAACP production venture producing in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble.

The official description of “The Gates” states that it “follows the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community.”

Michele Val Jean will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Val Jean has been a writer for “The Bold and the Beautiful” since 2012 and has also written for shows like “General Hospital” and “Santa Barbara.”

Progress. Not surprising it is CBS. Y&R to date is among the few soaps that handled Black characters in a positive way, that didn't stereotype them. GH is working on it - and made progress in the past three years.

2. I got up this morning, and per my routine turned on NY1 to see the weather (hoping it wouldn't rain later - it did), and the rail report (hoping there weren't any delays on my train - there weren't). And low and behold I got the political report or "super Tuesday", and was infuriated.
Livid. I ranted in my head all the way to work about it. Not surprised. Just once again disappointed in the human race, who I don't think is worth piddly-squat. Damn political situation in the US is enough to make anyone misanthropic.

Plus side, more people voted in the Democratic primary than the Republican one, well unless you include Texas. With is the ninth realm of hell. (There are wildfires in Texas right now - so maybe I'm right?)

Honestly, you know the US is misogynistic based on the results alone. Instead of two smart, forty-something women running, Kamala Harris and Niki Haley, we have two old farts, one with advanced dementia, and one who seems to just continue to toddle along. They are both above the age of seventy-five, long past retirement age. I want a rule - no one over the age of seventy should be permitted to run for political office. Worse? We have an evil misogynistic racist negative marketing guru who instigated an insurrection and is clearly guilty of treason running for President for a major party, in the hopes of getting immunity from his crimes and staying out of prison and debt. If you vote for this piece of shit, you should be deeply ashamed, and possibly mentally ill. It sickens me that this piece of shit is still breathing or free and not in prison for life, let alone running for President. He should be executed for Treason like any other traitor or at the very least living out his days in a maximum security prison.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like Haley. But she is the lesser of two evils. And I'd like a cockroach over Trump. Trump is just like Hitler. There is no difference. And the people who vote for him, most likely would have voted for and supported Hitler or a Fascist like him in the previous century. I now know why Hitler got into place in Germany. I never understood it before, how could they do it? Now, I know.

Makes me furious just thinking about it.

3. Work is slightly better. I'm actually enjoy working with Breaking Bad (who listens to me, agrees, and lets me do my thing with little to no supervision). He's the polar opposite of Bright Young Thing. I don't know how they get along. She must drive him crazy.

I get along better with him - mainly because I'm kind of snarky and laid back myself. And so is he.

And we were both trained by Babs, so we get along with her too.

It's the three of us against Crazy Org.

And the work is challenging, it's mostly editing. Reviewing, finding mistakes, asking someone else to correct them or correcting them myself, sending it on - and following up. Then updating the purchasing system. Answering questions. That sort of thing. Some negotiation meetings.

In some respects much less clerical than last year. I'm kind of managing contracts again.

4. I still hate the CPAP machine. I can't sleep with it on. So now I'm getting maybe five hours of sleep as opposed to six hours of sleep.

I go to bed earlier. But alas the damn machine keeps me up two more hours. I keep wrestling with it.

It is not designed for someone who sleeps alone, on their side, tosses and turns, with their nose in their pillow, and has insomina for other reasons besides nasal congestion.

Last night I was told the mask needed adjusting.
