The Friday Five...
1. Are you happy with your current line of work? What do you like/don't like about it?
I like the work. I don't like how it is managed. I enjoy negotiating contracts, solving problems, analyzing things, helping folks, and working in infrastructure - I enjoy helping others and making a difference however small in my community and city. I do not enjoy anal retentive managers who can't delegate worth shit and/or are control freaks and bullies. If I could just swap out the managers for better managers, and have an office with windows in Mid-Town, along with the ability to take my vacation time whenever I want and for however long I choose, I'd be a happy camper.
2. Do you see yourself doing the same type of work in 5 years? What about 10?
Five yes. Ten no. I plan to retire within three-six years.
3. Did you see yourself doing this type of work 5 years ago? What about 10?
Yes, I've been here almost 17 years. But 20 years ago? Not so much. (A young person obviously came up with this meme.)
4. Did you have a dream job as a child? What was it?
Veternarian (blame All Creatures Great and Small for that - and a lot of animal books that I read as a kid), Archaeologist (Indiana Jones - I wanted to be Indiana Jones), and Novelist or Screenwriter. Also at one point an actress. And a comic book artist/writer.
5. If you had to pick a radically different job from what you have now, regardless of whether you'd realistically be able to do it given your skillset, what would you pick and why?
Comic Book Artist
