20 Things I'm Grateful For
Jul. 19th, 2024 08:47 pmI feel like I'm whining too much, or whinging, as my father would call it. My parents lived in Australia for 18 months from 1990-1991, and my father picked up a lot of Australian slang, which he'd throw out from time to time without warning. Whinging was among his favorites, along with my mother's.
It's mostly the fear talking. My complaining, anxiety, depression and my anger are results of my fear, which I'm trying to combat in various and sundry ways. Some days are easier than others?
Today was hard. It's been a tough week...not because anything major happened, more the result of various frustrations, and uncertainties?
Anyhow, before I go into the day...a few things I'm grateful for that either happened today, didn't happen, or are always present...making life enjoyable in small ways.
1. It was a sunny day. Low humidity, after several weeks of unbearable humidity and heat, it was actually pleasant and a break in the heat wave. Started out in the 60s, and went up to maybe 85, and felt like 85, with low humidity. Lovely. With a breeze. With a clear blue sky in the evening.
2. My personal/home laptop, iphone, kindle did not have a Microsoft Operating system, so were not affected by Crowdstrike.
3. The subways and trains ran on time and without any disruption. Also it was not chaotic at the Air Train building or the train stations.
4. Co-workers were pleasant, and supportive for the most part. And reassured me about the union contract, also the "election" - basically staunch life-long Republicans were telling me that there was no way a Republican candidate would win and avoided mentioning the candidate by name. One had supported that candidate in 2016. Also they said it wouldn't effect NY that much anyhow.
5. I have books to read, many books.
6. The ATM machine worked and gave me money. And my bank was fine and not affected. Nor was the NY Stock Exchange by any of the Microsoft issues.
7. The supermarkets in my neighborhood were open and didn't have any issues.
8. I'm not traveling by plane anywhere, nor is anyone in my family at the moment.
9. My remaining Maternal Aunt is home safely from the hospital, recovering from her bout with pneumonia.
10. Wales contacted me by text, concerned about me and all is well. Grateful that I'm still friends with Wales.
11. I received my packages from Talbots and Amazon without any issues today. The Talbots clothes fit and look good. Love the Takini Swim Top. So I do not have to return them. The filter fit the air purifier and it is working, so I don't have to return the filter. Just have two more to go - due to arrive tomorrow via Amazon Prime.
12. My toe isn't broken just mildly bruised.
13. My apartment is blessedly quiet, and I don't hear neighbors at all - just the white noise of fans.
14. I've got my digestive system back on track and no longer have belly pain or sciatica going down my leg. And my brain fog has cleared off.
15. I actually accomplished two things today at work - even though my computer was down for the majority of the day.
16. I'm grateful for the Headspace and Calm apps.
17. I'm grateful for the trees and fireflies outside my living room windows, along with the view of the sky.
18. I'm grateful for a working A/C and fan.
19. I'm grateful my mother is healthy, mentally and physically, and calls me daily, and that we are close friends. Also that I can talk to her about anything without fear.
20. Grateful for a shower with good water pressure - that I can take any time I want without any worries. Just took one tonight.
This is long, I'll do the whole Crowdstrike debacle in a different post.
