After taking a hot shower, I'm still too wired for sleep. Didn't help that my tub isn't draining fast - and requires snaking, which may take weeks to get the super to do.
An old acquaintance friend from my ATPOBTVS days, posted on FB that they felt for both the T supporters and the non-supporters in the US election. They are in England, and not affected by this mess, except peripherally.
"I feel for the US, even those who voted for Trump (who probably feel elated and won’t think they need my feels!). Reading story after story of immigrant and minority communities who voted for Trump has been really interesting. One group of voters showed up in force and with great dedication to vote against him - I feel a gut punch for them and what they’ve had to put on the line. Traditions of organising and political education in ways that resonate and are part of communities lives appears to be so important. All year round not just at elections. This must include trade unions, which must think of ways of meeting people in their every day life - at work. We must speak to their material interests."
I repost here, because I can't wrap my brain around it? I may be too filled with rage, fear, shame, grief and numbness to do so. My mother told me today that she's reacting to this election the same way she reacted to my father and best pal's deaths - with numbness, or a sense that it isn't real. She keeps expecting them both to walk through the door, and keeps thinking this, the election never happened, it's too absurd to be possible.
And I saw the Winnie the Pooh bit, where Pooh tells Piglet he is scared, and Piglet doesn't plague him with platitudes, but just says, know I love you and I'm here for you always. My Mom did that for me tonight, as did my brother, and my Aunt, and my friend Wales. And my church - which told me to come to service on Sunday or tonight.
I may feel alone in the dark. I'd say dark, but it is unseasonably warm at the moment. But I'm not. And that's reassuring.

7. Do you have a favourite apple?
Granny Smith - tart green apples. Really only one I eat regularly. The others are either too soft or too sweet.
8. In 1895 German physicist Wilhelm Röntgen produced and detected electromagnetic radiation in a wavelength range today known as X-rays or Röntgen rays. Have you ever had your feet X-rayed?
Recently. Both feet have been at least once. The left one twice, and recently in fact - about three weeks ago.
9. Wes Craven’s ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ premiered in the US in 1984. Have you ever seen it? Are you a fan of horror films?
Yes. Unfortunately. It gave me nightmares for a year. And there are scenes in it - I can't unsee. Johnny Depp's infamous death scene being among them - he's basically eaten by the bed. It remains ingrained in my memory forever.
10. If calories didn’t affect your weight and you didn’t have to worry about the health implications, what would be your favourite thing to eat as a treat every single day?
It's not calories that are the problem - but high blood sugar. Also gluten-intolerance. I've never bothered with calories. So, if those weren't an issue? I'd have bread, pasta, soft pretzels, bagels, pizza...but alas...I can't.
11. It’s Calista Flockhart’s birthday – did you ever watch Ally McBeal?
Yes, briefly. Calista Flockhart irritates me. I couldn't get through the first season. And yes, you kind of have to like Calista - she's in almost every scene. Be like watching Buffy and disliking Buffy.
