Rainy Days and Mondays...in May
May. 5th, 2025 08:59 pm1. Tonight is the The Met Gala, which is always the first Monday in May, where the rich and famous dress up in outlandish and pricey outfits and strut their stuff like large peacocks up a green carpeted stair case, while photographers snap photos. Once inside, it's just a huge party, where they wander about the Museum in all their finery. (Some take it off and change into something else, or so I've been told.) Food is served. Entertainment provided. And Journalists for Vanity Fair, Vogue and Elle write everything down, but no photos are taken inside the Museum for understandable reasons. Each year has a different theme - that everyone is supposed to follow, or strongly encouraged to (they don't have to and some don't dress up at all) - this year's theme is ""Superfine: Tailoring Black Style". Here's the photos from Parade. The Gala is an invite only benefit to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

And no, I've never been - nor have I gone to watch the red carpet. Tonight? It's raining.
This is Celine Dionne in the rain...

Each year there are chairs - who put it all together, and review the theme - this year it was Anne Wintoure (of Vogue Magazine - basically the inspiration for the Devil Wears Prada), and her co-chairs, Colman Dolman, and Pharrell Williams, Colman is shown below.

2. In other news, my church played a remastering of this song by George Harrsion, which I found comforting. George Harrison may be among the most underrated of the song-writers out there - his songs are simply beautiful.
Sunrise doesn't last all morning
A cloudburst doesn't last all day
Seems my love is up and has left you with no warning
It's not always going to be this grey
All things must pass
All things must pass away
Sunset doesn't last all evening
A mind can blow those clouds away
After all this, my love is up and must be leaving
It's not always going to be this grey
All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
None of life's strings can last
So, I must be on my way
And face another day
Now the darkness only stays the night-time
In the morning it will fade away
Daylight is good at arriving at the right time
It's not always going to be this grey
All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
All things must pass away

The song basically says it's temporary, be grateful and let it go, all at the same time. Reminds me a little of Let It Be, in tonal quality.
3. Another song for a rainy Monday ...
Rainy Days and Mondays...by the Carpenters - this song kind of fit me today. It's how I'm feeling today.
Talkin' to myself and feelin' old
Sometimes I'd like to quit
Nothin' ever seems to fit
Hangin' around
Nothin' to do but frown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
What I've got they used to call the blues
Nothin' is really wrong
Feelin' like I don't belong
Walkin' around
Some kind of lonely clown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
What I feel has come and gone before
No need to talk it out (to talk it out)
We know what it's all about
Hangin' around (hangin' around)
Nothin' to do but frown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
Hangin' around (hangin' around)
Nothin' to do but frown
Rainy days and Mondays always get
Me down
Music has a lovely way of making me feel less alone, that somewhere out there at this very moment in time, someone feels exactly the same way - and that song resonates for them as well.
Music and art connect us, I think, to each other, and to the world around us.

Date: 2025-05-06 02:46 am (UTC)Always been a primary connection point for me. Hi there, 'kat, been a while! Yeah, I'm still around, just haven't posted here for as long while now, over a year, I think. Good to see you're still here.
Turned 71 last September, feel it. Officially dissolved the audio repair business last May, although I still do a little bit of work on the side to pick up a few extra bucks. (Social Security pretty much a subsistence income.)
But music keeps me going psychologically, always has, just now more than ever. Lucky to live within range of two great Philadelphia NPR stations, WXPN and WRTI. And of course, pretty respectable LP / CD collection built up over 50+ years now.
Then, as you mentioned, how lyrics can resonate so perfectly at times. By chance, I happened to be flipping through youtube last night, and came across this vid, by one of my favorite artists, and with that stunningly evocative line that grabbed me the very first time I heard it many years ago. Here's the link:

I hope to post more again soon. Take care,

Date: 2025-05-07 12:04 am (UTC)Congrats on the 71st birthday. Somewhat belated Happy Birthday.
Thanks for the song link. It's interesting how a line can grab us...and stick with us. Riding Shotgun Down the Avalanche is truly a beautiful song - haunting. I will have to hunt down more Shawn Colvin and Alison Krauss. Thanks for the recommendation.
I live off of an Apple Music subscription - as does my brother. It provides unlimited music downloads for a monthly subscription fee.
Oh, my!
Date: 2025-05-06 03:16 am (UTC)1. I like the white suit and hat.
2. The red and black outfit doesn't look horrible till you get below the hat to the tent ridge-pole shoulders. But I guess those are to keep people from noticing the clown shoes.
3. Poor Celine's outfit looks like a dog attacked her trash bags. The aluminum foil top looks like it was saved. And her umbrella is cute.
4. Looks great, but I'd advise her to avoid the stairs.
5. Mr. Coleman looks remarkably calm for having lost two bets to someone really cruel.
Re: Oh, my!
Date: 2025-05-06 01:40 pm (UTC)Agree. However? It's worth mentioning that The Met Gala Fashion is mainly meant to be "art" for "fashion's sake" or a feast for the eyes (practicality be dammed) and not necessarily wearable (most of them change clothes once inside to something else, and no cameras or photos are permitted inside the museum - all the photos are taken on the carpet outside, prior to climbing the steps). So it is basically for photo-shoots, cameras, and magazine covers. Did raise a record breaking $31 Million for the Met.
Also they have people help them with the long capes and trains up the steps. Some even have a change of shoes. Also, some take their trains or capes off before they go up the steps. I read an article about it last year - and the journalist explained that inside the Museum, a lot of the party-goers are just in casual wear, mainly because they don't want to ruin the expensive outfits.
