A couple of things that have zip to do with the meme.
Spoke with Mother. Apparently her church is requiring her to do a virtual background check to see if she complies - in order for her to sing in her church's choir. And she can't get it to say she complies.
Mother: I have to do a virtual background check to sing in my church choir, and it told me I'm not compliant - so I have to ask them to help me figure it out.
Me: Wait a minute. They are asking you to do a background check in order to sing the church choir?
Mother: yes, all volunteers with the church have to do it. It's a new requirement.
ME: You aren't volunteering though? You are singing in the choir.
Mother: True, I'm not working with kids or anything. So the least they should do is help me figure it out. Also there are members who don't have a computer at all.
ME: They shouldn't make you do it at all.
Mother: Well, it's all volunteers. And there's a training portion - to comply which I'd done before.
Me: Training? For what? To sing in the choir??
Mother: To Volunteer at the church - I had to do it - when I was helping in the elder care ministry and health ministry, which I've not done in years. I don't know why they need me to do it now, or why I don't comply.
ME: You aren't really volunteering to do anything other than sing. It's not like you can hurt anyone or molest any kids - you are singing in a choir.
Mother: They do have troubles getting people to join the choir now.
Me: Gee, I wonder why.
Oh, and I saw Fantastic Four : First Steps - which was excellent. It was everything I wanted in a superhero Fantastic Four film and then some. I've been lucky - I've only been to the movies twice in the last three years, and both films I loved to pieces (the other one was Oppenheimer).

Below is an insanely long MCU (Marvel Cinema Universe) franchise list - television and films, meme. Similar to the Star Wars and Star Trek memes, but longer. I thought about making it even longer by adding all the films that were adapted from Marvel Comics by other studios, such as Across the Spiderverse, and well all the X-men films, but chose not to, because the list is long enough on its own. There are lot of Superhero films and television shows out there. If they stopped making them tomorrow? We would not be deprived. (Not to worry - they won't.)
I take no credit for this monstrosity, I snagged it from colls, thank you colls for doing it.

Strictly speaking, I have seen bits and pieces of many of the other movies because they run all of the time on cable. But I only italicized the movies I started on purpose and quit watching partway through. I have also seen and enjoyed the early Spiderman movies with Tobey Macguire as Peter Parker. I watched the cartoon Spiderman movie, too, but I couldn't recall the title. It was good.

Date: 2025-08-11 01:09 am (UTC)I've seen all the movies in the theaters (exceptions: Dark World and Brave New World).
I don't have streaming. (Ms. Marvel, Daredevil: Born Again and the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special crossed over to my satellite service.)
Is the 2008-2019 run from Iron Man to Endgame the greatest stretch of genre movies ever?

Date: 2025-08-12 01:26 am (UTC)Yes, with maybe two or three missteps. I'd definitely agree with that assessment.
Also, Avengers, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame are hands down the best "multi-character" films that I've seen. Multi-character work is hard to do. Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars really aren't - they were more focused. Lord of the Rings - sigh doesn't date well (I rewatched it recently and it really doesn't date well) - but outside of that - it doesn't work, too many characters are left underdeveloped. Also, Marvel did something no one else had ever done - they slowly built up to it with a bunch of stand-alone films, so the characters were fully developed by the time the big films hit the screens, so the writer didn't have to do much, outside of let the characters shine.
Have you seen Brave New World? I think you did. I vaguely remember reading a review or talking to you about it.
You're not missing that much with the streaming - although if you ever get the chance, check out WandaVision, Hawkeye, Jessica Jones, and Falcon and the Winter Solider - they stood out for me. You also might enjoy Loki - it has a Prisoner meets Tardis by way of the Good Place type of vibe.

Date: 2025-08-12 02:48 am (UTC)The one streaming season I really REALLY want to see is Jessica Jones s1, with David Tennant as Killgrave. That sounded phenomenal. (And since I am completely in love with Kathryn Hahn, WandaVision and Agatha All Along wouldn't be bad either.)

Date: 2025-08-12 10:03 pm (UTC)Jessica Jones 1 - is good and worth a visit, as are WandaVision and Agatha All Along, for different reasons. Those were actually the best of the Marvel series on Disney +, along with Hawkeye and Daredevil.
