This week's the Friday 5 Meme
Oct. 3rd, 2025 09:51 pm1. Do you ever wonder if the way you see things visually aren't how other people see them?
Yes. All the time. I find other people interesting. Had a lengthy chat about this with my Aunt once on a drive from the Poconos to Philly. She'd taken a psychology course back in the day - and one of the assignments was for everyone to listen to the same piece of music - then write what they saw, visualized or perceived while listening to it. One person saw colors, another notes, another felt things, and my Aunt saw a movie in her head, and wrote it down as a story. No one but my Aunt saw the story, everyone else saw notes, colors, or just felt things.
I find the fact that we all think and perceive the world so differently, fascinating. We do. Our vision is different. Some are color blind. Some dyslexic. Some blind. Some visually impaired. And dyslexia is often a spectrum, just as vision is - some are near sighted, some far-sighted. I remember a discussion between two friends about dyslexia - one, Carter, explained to the other, Amy, that she couldn't explain to Amy how she saw things differently from her - in Carter's head, it was normal. That's how she perceived the world.
Add to that? We process it differently. Someone who negotiated and analyzed contracts is going to process information differently than someone who taught for a living. An engineer will see the world differently than an artist.
No two people see things the same way or focus on the same things. Sometimes people see the same things, but often think about them differently. The human mind is fascinating. I don't think we'll ever understand it completely.
2. What kind of sounds are the most annoying?
Squeaking sounds. Chalk on a chalk board. Squeaking wheels. High pitched sounds. I don't like high soprano - it's why opera doesn't work for me for the most part, that high squeak. Sirens. Car Alarms. Fire Alarms.
3. When walking through a store, do you shop with your hands by touching/feeling the texture of things
I try not to, but often do. Most stores don't want you to touch things.
4. If you could only smell three scents for the rest of your life, what would they be?
fresh sea breeze or water, sunshine, and laundry
5. What sorts of things do you savour when eating them?
chocolate mousse, apple or pumpkin pie, a good muffin or cookie, savory meal...matcha latte (drinking),
Off to bed. I hope.
