Merry Christmas
Dec. 24th, 2025 10:18 pmMerry Christmas to those who celebrate.
I took today off, and did next to nothing with it - outside of baking chocolate chip cookies I didn't need to bake, and resting my knee. I think I just wanted to watch television, play Royal Match and veg?
Decided to do laundry either tomorrow or Friday. Knee needed a respite. Struggling with my diet still - chocolate chip cookies tends to spike blood sugar, so does fries. I had fixed lamb, asparagus, and fries for dinner. It was a good dinner, but not the best for my blood sugar. The holidays are hard for restricted diets.
Zigging back and forth between Angel and Buffy, has made me aware of a few things? Marsters was doing a better job of staying in tip top shape than Boreanze during this time period. Boreanze looks puffier, and Marsters is hot. They are doing a good job of jumping between pathos and comedy. Buffy gets really dark for about two episodes then jumps back again to comedy.
While I adore Spike's arc? A few things are a bit off plot-wise. It still makes no sense that Buffy hadn't staked Spike prior to Intervention. Or that anyone else hadn't. I can see why Spike is no longer worried about it, and rolls his eyes whenever they threaten to do so. He was in S4, by mid-S5, he's decided that it's not happening. Intervention is a hilarious episode, but in order to work, a lot of the characters are written a wee bit dumb? Even Spike is? Although it does make sense that he wouldn't figure out the Buffybot is actually Buffy in the final scene until she kisses him - since he's been thoroughly thrashed, and is most likely not thinking all that clearly. And genuinely answers her questions.
A couple of things are set up in this episode and the prior one, bits of foreshadowing and plot points. It's made clear that Willow and Tara are NOT on the same page regarding resurrection spells and magic rules. And while Tara is Wiccan, Willow is more along the lines of a Techno Witch/Gypsey via Jenny Calendar's training, and Rupert Giles/Ethan Rayne's dark magic practices. It's equally made clear that while Spike may care about Dawn, Buffy, and Joyce, as a demon he doesn't necessarily have their best interests at heart? He doesn't stop Dawn from doing the resurrection spell, and instead aids her. He also takes her to a demon with knowledge on the topic. As Dru puts it in Crush - he can love, just not wisely. The demon with the books, took a lock of Dawn's hair, and looked a wee bit too interested in her. (The character of the doctor with the books, and the tail, is notable - for being portrayed by Joel Grey). He's humming Peter and the Wolf, and I think he most likely is a wolf.
And - it's clarified that Glory can't brain suck vampires. She can brain suck her minions and humans. It's also clarified that Spike programmed the Buffybot to be "Buffy" - except in love with Spike - however she would continue to put her friends, and Giles first. This is why Buffy's friends don't pick up on her being a robot, she's not programmed like April was - she actually cares about things outside of Spike, and knows who they are. Indicating how well Spike knows Buffy's friends, and her relationships with them.
Spike is a contradiction. I can see why they are confused by him. He's equally confused by them. It makes the series very rewatchable for me.
Angel is equally interesting - as is his relationship with Darla. Apparently it's not sex that causes him to lose his soul, but a moment of bliss. Whether that could happen with Buffy again or not - isn't clear? But neither are willing to risk it. He doesn't lose it with Darla - because he slept with her out of despair and hopelessness. While with Buffy, it was making love and bliss. Free from pain. That said, the Darla/Angelus and Darla/Angel romance is all the more tragic - because Darla lost her demonic soul mate. Although they did part at various points, and she often put her survival over his. It's not a clear cut romance, and his visit with Buffy in Forever - isn't clear cut either. It's interesting though that Riley is permanently gone at this point, and doesn't check on Buffy or what's happened to her Mom or anything at all. Complete radio silence. (Makes it hard to care about Riley. I honestly think they should have just killed the character off and called it a day? It's odd that they didn't, and instead of having Angel pop up in S6 to break up Spike and Buffy, they have Riley do it.)
I've discovered that I'm really enjoying Angel - better than I remembered or thought I would. Also I like the character of Angel. And agree that Angel and Buffy still have chemistry.
It's time for bed. The year is slowly winding down again, isn't it? And once again we've sunk into winter. Although it was sunny today. I have the lights on my little christmas tree on. And I watched my UUA Church's service on my big screen television set via Youtube. It's easier that way. Plus I can see more - such as the musicians. I couldn't see a thing when I attended it in person last year. (I won't do that again. Too crowded.) I don't get the little chocolate Christmas bells they handed out - but I didn't want or need them either. I think they gave chocolate coins, a little thing of perfume, and something else last year - to symbolize the gifts of the three kings (for the past several years the Magi had been the general theme), this year immigrants and angles were the general theme.
And it was topped off by a rendering of this song Huddled Masses. Listen to it, and I dare you not to cry. It's very moving, and particularly now.
At work yesterday, my cubicle mate did her busy holiday dance. This is when someone feels the need to tell me how busy they are, and all the things they are doing and have to do - like a little spinning top that can't stop spinning. I told her to just focus on one task at a time, stop thinking of all the things she needs to do, and break it down bit by bit.
The Department Wide Holiday Party that was held on Monday apparently ran out of food about fifteen minutes into the Party. People had to go out and get food on their own. They also ran out of bowls, and utensils. And all they had food wise was pizza (it was good pizza apparently from Adrienne's), salad (a small side salad), and a bowl of pasta. When cubicle mate left - they were hunting for bowls to serve the pasta. Cubicle mate was able to score one of the remaining two slices of pizza, which were small slices. In short, I missed nothing. The party on my own floor was better catered.
On that note - off to bed.
