Jan. 22nd, 2026 06:41 pmI've decided the world went nuts long ago and I just happen to reside within it. It does make want to stay in my apartment and hibernate at times, like the human version of a bear. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all make like a bear and just hibernate through the winter months?
Speaking of winter - it's decided to thrust itself up the United States proverbial ass with a nasty vengeance this weekend. If you have weekend plans to travel anywhere within the US, with the possible except of the Pacific Northwest? I'd cancel them. This is a good weekend to make like a bear and hibernate. For myself? I decided to take Monday off, and canceled my Physical Therapy appointment scheduled for Monday. (Still have one for this Friday and next Wednesday, so I'm hardly bereft). Kept the endocrinologist appointment - it's virtual, so not a problem. Why? The Winter Storm - named "Fern" by the National Weather Service (they name storms now, not just hurricanes, but your run of the mill storms and Nor'Easters) - is supposed to hit the New York area late Sunday afternoon and continue well into Monday, ending sometime aroun 2:30pm. I'm not busy at work, and I don't feel like braving the public transportation system and the sidewalks during it. I'd rather wait until Tuesday, when it's sunny. Granted it will be frigid on Tuesday. The Polar Vortex from the Artic is sweeping down on Canada and most of North America. (When and if I retire - I'm going to fly somewhere warm for the months of January through March, and just stay there until spring arrives.)
Overall - I think my knees are getting better? But I foresee more doctors in my future.

Found an article in Elephant Journal via FB - the best advice I ever saw in Ask Amy Column (kind of the modern version of Dear Abby or the print version of Am I an Asshole (spoiler? They usually are).
A woman asks if she's a horrible person for excluding her sister from a female family getaway. She explains that her sister is a single working mom that doesn't regularly attend church services and the other family members are housewives, with families, wealthy and attend services. The sister is excluding her from an annual weekend fall getaway that she has with her other two sisters and a few cousins. They shop, hang out, eat out, and enjoy each other's company. When the excluded sister discovered she was excluded - she showed up on her sister's doorstep in tears, and confronted her. The woman explained they didn't have enough in common - and her sister should find her own friends who she has more in common with. (Note - it's a FAMILY getaway not a friend getaway.) Her sister tried to change her mind, but the husband threatened to call the police, so she left. What prompted the question is that her excluded sister has stopped talking to, and wants nothing to do with her, and has told people she is a horrible person.
Amy's response - is yes, you are a horrible person. Your sister is right, excluding her for these reasons is cruel. And it is your choice whether to find a way to make room for someone different from yourself in your life. Perhaps you should ponder the meaning of compassion when you attend services in your pew, because it's clear you haven't learned anything.

Rewatched "Him" - Buffy S7 Episode - I think 7? I can't remember the number?
It's a favorite - because I think it's hilarious, and it does a good job of satirizing/lampooning the romantic relationships/entanglements on Buffy to date. And the whole love at first sight or lust trope.
But I picked up on something that I hadn't previously - a little annoyance.
Buffy tells Dawn in Him - that her feelings for RJ aren't real. And she's rather cruel and condescending about it.
Dawn: What I feel for him is real. You don't understand -
Buffy: I think it's real for you.
It's an echo of what she said to Spike in Entropy, before he ended up sleeping with Anya.
"I think it's real for you."
Ugh. Buffy. I want to smack her. I'm not surprised both Spike and Dawn yelled at her.
