1. Ah, protest songs throughout the ages that are still relevant today and we've all been rediscovering out of..I don't want to say desperation?

This one was written in 1941 by Irving Berlin and it works just as well today for ahem, someone else (albeit someone who is basically the same guy - Berlin wrote about, just in the 21st Century).

"When that man is dead and gone" by Irving Berlin

And here's When that Man is Dead and Gone as sung by Mildred Bailey in 1942.

"The world is hell for you and me, but what a heaven it will be when that man is dead and gone, we'll go dancing down the street and kissing everyone we meet...When that man is dead and gone, what a day to wake up upon, what a day to smile upon when a certain man is dead and gone."

It's kind of on the nose? But it made me happy listening to it five to six times. (Honestly, I'd like to go ONE day without hearing anything about that man, at all. I get emails about him. He's in the news. My Boss mentions him. Right now he's threatening to withdraw Federal funding if they don't put is name on Penn Station instead of the name Penn Station. Sigh. I really despise fascism.]

2. Started watching Buffy S7, Episode 16 (?) - Storyteller - it does NOT improve with age. I guess if you are a fan of Tom Lenk and find nerd humor funny? Or making fun of nerdy boys funny? I don't. But to each their own. It would help a great deal if Tom Lenk didn't get on my nerves - he's like nails on a chalk board. I'd have preferred Jonathan, who also annoyed me, but much less so.

Also, it's obvious that Andrew is gay (worse - he's the gay male stereotype. Most gay men I've met in my life aren't like that. There's a range. Actually a lot of them are like Spike, Riley, Angel, Larry, Xander and Oz. And I've know quite a few "straight/heterosexual" men who are like Andrew.

A few take-aways? The actors are going out of their way to sell these scenes, and they had to have been torture to shoot? S7 has the most group scenes of either series or season. Too many extraneous characters in every episode. In Storyteller - we have six potentials (including one who looks a lot like Eve - aka the First) - Amanda, Kennedy, and four that I've no clue who they are, Andrew, Xander, Anya, Willow, Wood, Dawn, Buffy, and Spike.
That's too many people. It's been said that Gellar was incredibly annoyed filming S7 or the actor most annoyed with the season and working on it. I can see why - that was a hard season on the actors. She was putting in 18-20 hour days - seven days a week sometimes, and having do lots of long rambling monologues. Look grim. Look scared. Get beat up. She was burned out.

Xander is no longer the hunky guy he was in high school. He actually looks like an aging construction worker - so it is realistic. And the Xander/Anya bickering has worn thin.

If they are building on Wood's issues with Spike - it's kind of messy? Wood attacks Buffy - in one scene, which feels like a throw back to Afterlife. Storyteller references a lot of old Buffy episode monsters of the week - through various seasons, with Buffy picking up on them and trying to explain them to Wood. It's dealt with in a humorous manner. Almost like an adult seeing it as not quite as important as they remember it being as a kid or student.

Sloppy episode - mainly because they shifted the POV from Buffy to Andrew, which doesn't quite work as well? Also, Andrew is annoying.

3. It's going to be bitterly cold this weekend. Dropping into below 0 territory with wind chills. Which is kind of dangerous in NYC. NYC doesn't have the infrastructure for the lower temperatures. Lots of above ground trains. Homeless population. Ferries. Etc. Also, there's a lot of apartment complexes that don't have great heating.

I'm fine. Although...I'm very happy that I cancelled my hair appointment on Saturday morning - and rescheduled it for President's Day (it's supposed to be warmer on that day.)
