which I'm woefully not. So if you know the answers please comment. Thanks!

1. What is the best wireless or wifi service for laptops? (My friend Wales asked me this yesterday, apparently she'd been stealing wifi off of someone in her building (the guy who broke her vaccume cleaner so it's justified) until he figured it out and got a firewall (note if you are using wifi - you might want to ensure you have a firewall to keep people like Wales from stealing service from you for free) - anyhow, it was a great service - got her video and music downloads and was faster than my cable modem, which is saying something. She calls Verizon who informs her she can't do video or music downloads because it clogs up their service. So what plan doesn't? Is Firefox the one everyone is using or is that just a browser like "explorer"? Can anyone advise? Thanks! Also while you are at it, can you explain to me how you do wireless on the lap? Do you contact a service? Do you just do it? Is it more expensive than Time Warner? Or less?)

2. How do you download MP3 sample songs from the "save file" system? I keep trying to do it from friend's journals and can't figure it out. I have the ability to download songs, I'm pretty certain. Just not sure how to go about it

1. Firefox is a browser. Wireless on a laptop is, as far as I can tell, done with an airport card that is installed in the laptop which helps it receive the signal for wirelessness. We did it ourselves. And I have noidea if it's more than Time Warner. We use comcast.

When you download the files do you know where they go? Sometimes it's a matter of finding out where they're saved to. Can you give an example of mutual flister that tried to download from? I might be able to crack it. Or not.

I've tried to download from buffyannatator once or twice and liz marcs - who I don't know if you are flist with, but has amazing music reviews.
The thing of it is - I can't figure out how to do the "Save File - Trade Deal" - do you join? Is there a fee? Or is it free? Tried it with the_red_shoes as well.

Thanks on the wifi. I'll pass that on to my friend. What's an airport card?
Is that the same as a wireless card?

Yes, an airport card is pretty much the same thing as a wireless card.

I went to Rob's LJ and saw that he had a recent link to Megaupload. Is this the one that you're talking about? I'm on a Mac so I'm not sure that the computer lingo will all be the same. Clicked on the link, and it asked for me to type in the code into the box and then click download (upper right hand side of the window). Which then told me that the download would take x amount of seconds. After that my Download Manager popped up and asked me how I wanted to save this file, which I always ask it to save to Disk (desktop). Then a zip file shows up on my desktop. That's what it does for me. I didn't join anything.

Thanks, it might be different for non-Mac users, I forget most of the people on my flist have Mac's. Don't have one myself because the jobs I get tend to have IBM or PC's - and I can't transfer what I create at home on a MAC to a PC, although you can do the PC to Mac conversion apparently. (Not sure that's changed. Was that way back in the 90's).

Will attempt again. When I do it - I go to this weird screen that says Save File Group, enter password, download. Which is fine, except not sure how to get it after that. That may be the problem accessing the download on my system. Need to figure this out at some point so I can get cheaper access to tunes, as opposed to saving up and buying CD's constantly.

I just started downloading some of the Marshall Crenshaw music from Liz's Lj. All I did was click on the link in her LJ to the particular song, then when the file host came up click on the bar that says download file. If you have popup blocker, you may have to click on the bar that says download now, or disable the popup blocker temporarily for that site. Then when your windows file comes up saying "do you want to open or save this file" click on the one you want. If you click open file, it loads it onto your media player and plays it. When I do that, I then add it to my playlist by clicking on the add (+) currently playing song. If you choose to save the file, it saves it onto your computer wherever you choose to put it - "my music" for example. Once it's on the music file, you can right click on the file and choose open file, and it will play.
