Never posted a poll before.

I honestly don't believe this will be very valid, since in order to be valid, everyone who reads my journal, plus people who don't would have to respond to it. Otherwise all you get is a random sampling. And while I do have people of both genders on my flist, there's no guarantee both will answer the poll. I know for a fact that there are men on lj who have written fanfic - I've read it. But will they respond to this poll? Shrugs.

But what the hey. I'm curious. Will completely understand if you want to skip. I rarely do these things myself. ;-) (Not completely true - I've done D'H's and Superplin's.)

[Poll #976429]

Oh if you do write or read fanfic in the comments - rec a great fanfic that you've written or read in your fandom of choice. Also be sure to state what it is about. Whether it is romance, action, sex, character oriented, and if the writer is male or female. And of course the fandom.

Ugh. I have no clue how to edit polls in this thing. At any rate - the category with more than one fandom to write fanfic in? Sorry - you should have been able to choose more than one category. Since you can't pick the one you write the *most* in.

Also "under canon" should mean "follows the canon" or adheres to the story as written by the original authors/writers of the show or story. This does not necessarily exclude slash, unless of course it is The West Wing. ;-)

Also if you read or write fanfic in a category I did not list - mention it.

And here's a challenge - can you rec any fanfics written by men?

What do you mean by "fall under canon"?

From: [identity profile] shadowkat67.livejournal.com
Oh. Not sure how to put it.

Follows canon? Adhere's to canon?

For example - you would write a story where Spike is sired by Dru not Angel, because under canon - Dru sired Spike. Or if you think that
the comics are canon - you would not write a tale where Buffy was with the Immortal living in Rome, because you do not consider that "canon".

Does that make sense?

I know there's a way I can make it clearer, but brain is a blank at the moment.

What if it's both action *and* character-specific?

Just picke whichever one works the best. (sorry, really should have put one that had both - new to this whole polling business - and it's not as easy as it looks.)

For example - I've written two - one high in action, one more character - I would have chosen Character specific. Action would be if it doesn't really matter that much who the characters are.

What if you write fan fic, but you don't read it?

From: [identity profile] shadowkat67.livejournal.com
You've never read any fanfic?

Just skip that question. For example if you don't write it - you'd skip over half of them.

Hard to answer some questions. I've written fanfic, all of three stories, in three different fandoms, and for three different reasons, so I'm probably not exactly the target you're looking for. I also rarely read fanfic.

Oh yes, you are. You've written fanfic. Doesn't matter how much. I've written two stories.

The fact you have is enough.

And just skip the questions you can't answer. Let me know if that's not possible and I'll edit the poll.

Suggestion: rather than radio buttons, could you do ticky boxes? For most of these questions, I need to choose more than one option, and with radio buttons, I can't do that.

I could if I could figure out how to edit the dang thing. Just pick whatever is the one you've done most.

I'm new to this whole polling deal.

Doesn't matter - if you've written it - say yes. I've only written two for example.

I have publishing credits, but all as policy/historical type articles in military journals and things of similar nature. Fanfic is the only narrative fiction I've ever written, and I've written very little of that.

As I told ty above - you count. I've only written two pieces of fanfic - so you've most likely written more than I have.

[livejournal.com profile] speakr2customrs is both male and a fine fan fiction writer with a wickedly funny sense of humor.

Really? Didn't know that. Proves a theory though - you really can't tell online who is what gender unless they tell you. It doesn't come across in writing. Nice thing that.
