Hee. Just heard a fun song by Jeff Daniels (the film actor) on Folk alley internet radio.
It's called: "If William Shatner Can? I Can Too..."

The first lyric?

"If William Shatner Can? I Can too. Even Captain Kirk has to sing the blues...

I'm a Hollywood Renaissance man..."

Wish could remember the rest.

It's about Hollywood Actors who get enough money and pick up a guitare and sing. Listed in the song are: Russell Crow, Adam Sandler, and even Xenia...
LOL!

He wrote it to get money for his repetory theater company in Michigan.

He certainly did sing and write that song. It's on his cd which I have a copy of. And it's for his beloved Purple Rose Theatre (http://www.purplerosetheatre.org/) which is the pride of Chelsea, Michigan (near Ann Arbor).
Once a year he does a concert at the Rose and all the proceeds go right back into the Rose.

Ok, I found the cd so here are the lyrics :
If William Shatner can, I can too
Captain Kirk's gotta sing the blues
Just another celebrity with nothin' to lose
Singin' for my supper with my hat in my hand
Well, I'm Hollywood's answer to a Renaissance Man.

Russell Crowe was on the Leno Show
Singin' some song that nobody knows
He's got an Oscar, now he's got a guitar
Just like that he's a Rock 'n Roll star
Kathie Lee had to quit the show
To be with her family then the next thing you know
There's a TV special and a Christmas CD
Just ain't Jesus without Kathie Lee

Movie stardom's just a job
When you can sing like Billy Bob

(there's more but I don't know if you want me to post the whole thing)

Up to you... they are cool lyrics.

My favorite was about Adam Sandler and Xenia. LOL!

So apt...it seems whenever any of the actors get enough money they go off to form bands and sing. Can't say I blame them - there's another group that goes off and becomes writers (Shatner has a written a bunch of sci-fi novels, Michael Caine wrote a few thrillers, Ethan Hawk wrote a play and a book, Richard Hatch wrote a few Battle Star Galatica comic books...LOL!)
And then there's the *famous* writers and rock stars who become actors: Beyonce, Britney Spears, Mandy Moore, Whitney Houston, and Stephen King
who has acted in films.

Are they Renaissance people? Or just rich enough to be Renaissance people?

Ok, here's the rest then :
If William Shatner can, I can too
Captain Kirk's gotta sing the blues
Just another celebrity with nothin' to lose
Singin' for my supper with my hat in my hand
Well, I'm Hollywood's answer to a Renaissance Man

Despite people across the country screamin' please don't do it!
We've got another CD from Jennifer Love Hewitt
And now that Adam Sadler's got more money than God
I hope he takes his guitar and just goes away

It's safe to say, no one wins
When you listen to the Olsen Twins

If William Shatner can, I can too
Captain Kirk's gotta sing the blues
Just another celebrity with nothin' to lose
Singin' for my supper with my hat in my hand
Well, I'm Hollywood's answer to a Renaissance man

During the Star Spangled Banner Roseanne grabbed her crotch
Those with televisions got to watch
Zena the Warrior Princess hit a high "C"
Out popped a breast and well, you know the rest
Oh say can you see

The Three Sides of Bob Guiney
Are three sides too many

If William Shatner can, I can too
Captain Kirk's gotta sing the blues
Just another celebrity with nothin' to lose
Singin' for my supper with my hat in my hand
Well, I'm Hollywood's answer to a Renaissance Man.

Yeah, my Aunt has met him once or twice - she's involved in Repetory Theater and has made costumes and sung in a few musicals up there -- in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The last time I visited Michigan - which was sometime in the late 70s, was to see my aunt. We drove up from PA, and I remember all the mountains we drove through. Lovely up there.

Someday I might get up that way again...been a bit of a homebody, only making it to Hilton Head, last few years due to financial issues.

The station is great by the way. Had a song by Jennifer Warner called the Agnostic Gospels, and one by a Taiwanese singer called the Tower.

He really is a genuinely nice man. Best Friend's daughter worked for him at the Rose for a number of years and was very supportive (and he has a great house!).
