shadowkatAm amusing myself by watching "pop-up" Lost. Yes, you heard that right - "Pop-Up" like those old Pop-up videos, with little commentary in pop-up bubbles, except without the annoying sound-effects. Basically it's last season's cliff-hanger with a running comentary in subtitles at the bottom of the screen not a pop-up bubble thank god, exlaining everything. Telling us all the backstory on every scene, every character, etc. It's hilarious in places. Example: "Mr. Friendly got his name because he's friendly, he asked Michael to hand over his son Walt politely, gave Kate a dress to wear, and tossed the football with Jack. But he has also been in the center of all the conflict with the others and in reality, (this over a scene of him being told to kill someone), Mr. Friendly really isn't all that Friendly." It's like having a Television Without Pity commentary as you are watching it - except from the writers of the show. LOL! One scene even told us what St. Sebastian stood for.
In short - its "Lost for Dummies!" If you've never gotten into the series or can't follow it, this is the episode to watch.
At any rate - highly recommend as a stress-reducer and brainless humor.
Tried American Idol tonight and...they basically proved that they aren't interested in singers who have innovative voices or could actually do something cool with music, so much as smooth, somewhat dull, pop singers. There was a woman on tonight who had a voice like Amy Winehouse - deep, guttural, raw. And they kicked her out of the room. While there was a guy who sounded sort of off-pitch, and a bit sappy, and they took him. I loved the girl's reaction to their rejection: an eyeroll, a shrug, refusal to get upset, and the statement: "I'm done with American Idol." Yeah, hon, I hear you. So am I.

Date: 2008-01-31 04:49 am (UTC)And yeah, I was finding that with 'American Idol' too, they are really only interested in having the same boring bland kids for the last couple of years. The show had some real range of styles the first couple of years, but I was finding it got boring right from the beginning last year. Fox is getting better ratings with it than any other network, but in fact American Idol is getting it's worst ratings in 4 years (in spite of having no competition).
