Methinks I've finally found the cure for insomina. After trying literally everything else, including over the counter prescriptives which never work for me, and Benadryle which only makes me feel drugged the next day not to mention incredibly depressed.
Here it is for anyone who is remotely interested and plagued with similar problems:
* Two cups of Quality Sleep Herb Tea by Health King (put out by Health King and a product of China)(contains the chinese herbs mulberry and atractylodes root). Tastes a bit like coffee. Has the same warm quality, but opposite effect.
Relaxes and calms the nervous system.
One tablet of "Stress-Relax Tranquil Sleep" (Put out by Natural Factors and a product of Canada) - it contains Suntheanine L- Theanine, 5-Hydroxytrptophan (5-HTP), and Melatonin (the stuff that is in turkey and makes you sleepy after thanksgiving dinner).
A hot shower.
And no alcohol, chocolat, or sugar at least four hours before bed.
I've managed to get 7-8 hours of sleep three nights in a row, as opposed to the 4-6.5 sometimes 7 hours I had been putting in. Big difference. No longer feel like an irritable zombie.

Date: 2008-05-17 02:44 pm (UTC)But cutting down on coffee does help, for sure. I heard somewhere that it actually takes an average of 7 hours for caffeine to leave the body. So I try never to have any after 4 p.m.

Date: 2008-05-18 12:34 am (UTC)I usually sleep pretty well but if I get cramps/charlie-horse or any nervous restlessness I take some A to B Calm a freeze dried instant calcium magnesium drink which relaxes the muscles and also provides supplements of those minerals that I need.
There is nothing like a good nights' sleep!
