Vamp Diaries

Rather enjoyed Vamp Diaries tonight, despite the violence.
*decapitated body (granted a bad guy and not a person of color or minority...so not so bad. Also not a woman. Progress.)
*guy run over by a car and pronounced dead (he did wake up, but coughed blood)
* staked woman (she's technically not completely dead though).
* fight scene with burning (but two guys, and both vampires, and brothers...)
Actually not that high. About a 3 considering. TrueBlood is a lot higher, but it is also on HBO. They do off-set it with nudity and sex-scenes though. Vamp Diaries off-set with one kissing scene...which admittedly was hotter than TrueBlood's naked sex scenes, but still not quite enough.
*Poor Rebecca...guess Klaus doesn't want to deal with the recriminations? So you stay staked for the time being. Plus, he needs Elena alive...and you going all vengeful on her ass is hardly helpful. But hey, not dead, well not completely dead...so all is well.
* So who is in the coffin that Bonnie is dreaming about? Not Elijah. And not Michael. Mom?
* Stupid show still hasn't explained who Katherine is a doppleganger of. I keep waiting for that reveal. Maybe they forgot? Maybe that's who is in the coffin? Personally just happy it's not Mom.
* I was sure Tyler was a dead duck or dead wolf in this episode, guess not. Am somewhat disappointed...which is odd, since I like Tyler. But he's been aggravatingly wimpy of late.
The boy needs a bit more backbone, and to stop playing Klaus' lap-puppy.
* Oohhh, I like, snarly Stefan. Reminds me a bit of Angelus, except more complicated. Also liked that Stefan told Damon why he was doing what he was doing, and that Damon told Elena. That was fast. Normally in these shows it takes at least five episodes and lots of angst for that sort of secret to be revealed. This is supernatural soap opera story-telling on stereoids. In the space of one episode, Damon and Elena confront Stefan. Damon gets Stefan to tell him that he fouled up their plan to save Damon's life and then stole the coffin's to get revenge on Klaus. Then Damon turns around to tell Elena, confesses to being annoyed for feeling guilty and how unfair it all is, then states - if he has to feel guilty - he might as make it worth his while and kisses her.
I rather liked Damon in this episode - very pro-active character, not passive aggressive in the least. Stefan's too passive aggressive for my taste.
Damon: Stop Saving ME! (he says this after he stakes Stefan). Why are you even doing it? Out of guilt?
[To be fair, he has a point. Stefan keeps saving Damon and playing matyr. Has to be annoying. It would annoy me if my brother kept doing that. I'd want to rip him a new one. Particularly if I was a hard-up, lonely, 150 something year old vampire.]
* We finally got rid of Jeremy and he didn't die. Hmm. Did the writers run out things to do with him? Did they decide that Elena had suffered enough angst? Does McQueen Jr have another gig that he needs to take a half-year sabbatical for? What's the deal? Seemed rather abrupt to me.
Guess they weren't thrilled with the Bonnie/Jeremy romance. Or...maybe I'm right and that's not the same actor and they decided to write him out before it became too noticable?
Anyhow...kudos for not heaping more angst onto the show and Elena and not killing the boy off. Can't say I'll miss him all that much, gotten to be a bit boring.
Oh - almost forgot, should mention the gory decapitation of the hy-brid which garnered this episode a ranking of 2. Maybe 3. It was suggested not shown and no blood spatter (if this were Supernatural, we'd get a blood spatter). Jeremy shot and decapitated a hybrid (who is technically already dead or undead, so he didn't kill him per se). It was all rather gory - not shown, suggested, but still. The trauma of doing this...and a lot of incessant whining about having to put up with monsters - prompted Elena to persuade Damon to compel Jeremy to forget everything and leave town for Denver, where he can live a stress free existence with cousins. (So I guess Denver doesn't have werewolves, ghosts, and vampires - just Mystic Falls? Or maybe they are just better at ignoring them?)
I won't miss Jeremy all that much - a bit on the whiny side.
I do however miss Caroline. Hopefully she'll pop up next week. Rather spend time with Caroline than Tyler.
* Klaus is definitely an entertaining villain. I'll give him that. Love the accent. But he does seem to like to kill Alaric a lot. Which is ahem starting to catch up with Alaric. Apparently the ring can only heal you perfectly so many times? Or it has an expiration date or something? Hardly seems fair...considering the vampire rings seemingly last forever.
Overall fun episode. Held my attention and got rid of a boring character, without killing him off. Kudos. Plus made Damon more sympathetic...than he was last week, yet still snarky.

Date: 2012-01-07 05:56 am (UTC)So, edited the Vamp Diary post above. Removing smut-a-meter...albeit reluctantly, because I liked the sound of it. Got to come up with a suitable term for violence...crap-a-meter? blood-a-meter? gore-a-meter?

Klaus is definitely an entertaining villain. He's certainly a creative villain, I always look forward to see what he's up to next.
