A big thanks to everyone who responded to my query about buying real estate a couple posts below. Mucho appreciated. The consensus seems to be:

1. Get a buyer's realator not a seller's (although a guy at work told me to do the opposite, that's the problem with asking advice, you get contradictory advice)

2. Don't buy a co-op, they are hard to sell and difficult to make improvements to. Condos are best, a little more expensive, but cheaper overall than a house.

And a lot of other things, that I just don't have the head-space to handle at the moment. Been a tough work week and that's putting it mildly. But at least I'm busy, and there's no fears or worries of being laid-off, for once. Nice change of pace that.

I finally got to do the Marry/Shag/CRAG meme that's been going around, by pleading with [livejournal.com profile] ishtar and [livejournal.com profile] embers_log to provide suggestions. Apparently the meme works by replying to someone who is doing the meme and they will then give you three people...so, if you want to do it, and assuming I get around to answering emails, respond and ask for three people. They can be fictional characters or celebrities (sigh is there really much of a difference anymore?)

Here's the ones ember's gave me:

Round one: Francis Crawford of Lymond, Superman, and Malcolm Reynolds of Firefly

Well, this is actually pretty easy. Superman goes off the cliff - because hello, the man can fly and he's pretty close to indestructible. Francis Crawford - while quite the acrobat and with about as many lives as a cat, would probably die if I threw him off a cliff. The last time I checked he was mortal and could not fly. And Malcolm Reynolds might fall on the Firefly and make a quick getaway via his crew, but there's no guarantees. Other reasons for throwing Supes off the cliff include - bad hubby material. The guy has a secret identity.
Plus loads of villians gunning for him. Well actually, they all do, now that I think about it.
But Superman has super-powered villians gunning for him. The sort you can't just shoot and be done with it. And he's a bit too clean-cut for me, not enough edge. Off the cliff he goes.

The other two are both quite shaggable. But neither is husband material. Not to mention the fact that they are well, otherwise engaged. That said, I think I would probably marry Crawford - he has the estate, the money, and can take care of me in style. Plus he's less of a rogue. Malcolm Reynolds - I'd shag, because he tends to fly off. Great guy to have an affair with, never around long enough to be a problem.

Round two: Hugh Jackman, Alexis Denisof, and George Clooney

This is also easy. I'd marry Clooney, throw Denisof off the cliff, and shag Jackman. Why?
Because of the three I'd miss Denisof the least. Hasn't done a thing of interest since Angel.
Also far too pretty. He never really turned me on for some reason...like I said too pretty.

Clooney, would be fun to marry, we have the same politics, he's close to my age, and he's fairly down to earth. And not to showy. Granted his mannerisms would probably drive me to the loony bin, but hey, I have my ahem little idiosyncrasies.

And Jackman, a great shag. I don't think I have to explain why.

Round Three - via ishtar: Hugh Laurie, Anthony Stewart Head, and Daniel Craig.

Ah, a woman who gets my taste. Finally. Also easy.

Sorry, Head, you're off the cliff. Yes, I know. But them's the breaks. Got over you quite a while back.

And I'd marry Hugh Laurie, the man is a sweetheart - a rarity for an actor. Not to mention multi-talented and ruggedly handsome. Plus, has a great sense of self-deprectating wit. Adore him to pieces.

Craig - so shaggable. Yep, a rollicking good affair with Daniel Craig. No explanation needed for that one.

On the TV front?

Am somewhat annoyed, albeit not at all surprised that Sarah Connor and Dollhouse are more or less dead in the water. Damn. Just when they were getting really interesting.

Lost, after an amazing couple of episodes, annoyed the heck out of me last night. It did have some decent bits..not many, but some.

Oh well, am enjoying re-watch of the Buffy series.

I would love to get 3 (more) names in the bag/shag/crag meme.... either real or fictional, whichever interests you more.... (but I'll follow your rule: if I've never heard of them then they go over the cliff).

And BTW, the other night they had a Paley Festival evening honoring Dollhouse... and before that panel convened the big wigs at Fox went out of their way to call Joss to tell him that Dollhouse is NOT cancelled. Now, they didn't say it was picked up for another season... but they were worried about Joss sounding like the show was over. Personally I think they were probably stringing him along so he wouldn't give them bad press at the Paley Festival AND while the show is still on the air... but OTOH they did give him hope that there would be a season 2....
(I don't think any of them called anyone at T:SCC).

Three more names? Okay...

Fictional:

Dr. Horrible, Harry Dresden, Jayne

Non-Fictional:

Adam Busch, Terry Prachett, Leo Kotke (I may have misspelled the last one - he's the musician)

And I didn't keep within height requirements, sorry about that.

Hope you are right about Dollhouse. I really want it to succeed, Whedon's second seasons are much better than his first seasons. It deserves one more season at least!

Oh fun! I'll need to think about this....
and actually there is no height requirement for me (since I'm short) but I'll admit to some concern about the whole age thing....
but I can pretend that the whole age thing is not an issue (it isn't like anyone thinks this is real).

If Harrison Ford and Michael Douglas and Warren Beatty can marry women at least 20 years younger than them, why can't you? Heck, look at Demi Moore. I know a woman who at the age of 28 married a guy who was 55.

I think Leo Kotke (whose name I can't spell) is older - he has to be, he was doing folk music in the 1960s.
And so's Terry Prachett.

Oh yes, Kottke is definitely older than me (I worshipped at his feet when I was 19... and he wasn't). Interestingly Terry Pratchett and I are just about the same age (he just seems older because he is dealing with this Altzheimers thing)...

when I was a senior in High School an absolutely yummy (really handsome & smart) sophomore boy was interested in me... and I put him off because the 2 year age difference seemed weird to me. I don't know why that seems like an issue to me: theoretically I agree that it shouldn't be. It definitely shouldn't be for other people!

We all have our kinks: I could point out to you that I've known some very happy couples where the wife is a head taller than her husband....

From: [identity profile] shadowkat67.livejournal.com
Oh, I don't mind a head taller, it's head and shoulder's that gets a bit awkward. (6ft vs. 5.2/5.3 is a huge difference, much bigger than 5'8 and 6 ft, which was Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. (I should confess that every guy I've dated with the exception of three were shorter than me. The tallest was maybe 5'11 or 6 ft. And in elementary - I had crushes on guys who were shorter. Heck my first celebrity crush was Davy Jones who is 4'10, a former jockey. And...I crushed on Marsters who is about 5'6 or 5'8 thereabouts.)

But people do have hang-ups. And for me? I am not physically attracted to guys that I'm a lot bigger than - it's a thing. ;-)

Didn't know Prachett was struggling with Alzthemiers. Sorry to hear about that.

Size wasn't the only issue. There were others.

From: [identity profile] embers-log.livejournal.com
Actually I really agree on the size thing: I don't think I could ever be comfortable dating a man if I weighed more than him...

Yeah, Pratchett doesn't have any huge symptoms for Altzheimers yet, but he has had a couple of brief (but telling) episodes and has been diagnosed.... He is lucky that many of his fans are important doctors and researchers who are eager to do all they can for him. Terry Pratchett has donated a million pounds of his own money to Altzheimers research and his fans have doubled that, and are trying to treble it. Actually this would be a very hard time to be his wife!

Regarding Dollhouse, evidently Kevin Reilly (head of Fox network) is the one who called Joss and said that he wants to keep Dollhouse on the air... and he is the one who can do it.
Gossi (at Whedonesque, and evidently is 'in the business' in LA) posted:
"I haven't been particularly down on Dollhouse's renewal chances lately. Whilst the ratings are - frankly - bad, the reason I've not been down on it is simple: Reilly wants to keep DH, believe it or not, and 20th are chomping at the bit to keep it for all manner of reasons (international sales, DVD, online etc). I don't know if it'll pan out, but the fact they're negging with a view to keepig it instead of looking to cancel it suggests the ratings data isn't telling the whole story at all."

So I hope that is true...

Hee, I agree on the age thing too. I'm not comfortable dating people a lot younger or a lot older - by a lot I mean more than 8 years older or five years younger.
(Milan Kundera in The Unbearable Lightness of Being has a great line - that it's difficult to have a relationship with someone who doesn't share the same musical history. I think it's true in a way...at least for me.)

Interesting bit on Dollhouse and Kevin Reilley. This is actually what happened with Buffy, by the way. The ratings were not stellar out of the box. But Gail Berman was in charge at WB and in "love" with the show and concept. She nursed it and fought to keep it at the WB. (It was on the verge of being cancelled for about five years...I was always pleasantly surprised it was coming back. Same deal with Angel.)

Clearly they regret cancelling Firefly. And see Dollhouse as being a bit like it and to a degree Star Trek (another low rated series).

Reilley is smart to want to keep Dollhouse - it has the potential of becoming a cult hit. Star Trek had low ratings after all. Cult hits sell a heck of a lot more DVD's and by-products than mainstream does. (How many fan conventions do you know of that are associated with Grey's Anatomy, Bones, House, 24, or CSI?) But a cult hit? That has fan conventions which in turn equal fan magazines, action figures, novels,
DVD's, comic books and the potential of feature films. Also the internet - lots more potential with a cult hit, because internet loves cult.

I wonder why they aren't as eager to keep Sarah Connor?
From what I've seen online - it has a cult fan base as well? Wonder if maybe they are thinking the film franchise has a better chance and to continue it would just detract from the films?

Well the T:SCC ratings have been worse than Dollhouse... but even T:SCC has not be formally cancelled yet, so they may not be in a hurry to get rid of either of them. We'll see what happens... If the movie is a big hit then they might give the TV show another chance (let's hope!). It would be nice if Fox would give both shows another chance...

But I'm not sure they are exactly eager to keep Dollhouse... just not as eager to cancel it as we had all assumed.

From what I've read - Fox said that Dollhouse and Sarah Connor's futures depended primarily on whether it was feasible financially to do so. In short - the Cost-Benefit analysis. How much the show is compared to how much it is getting in revenue and how big a risk.

Not unlike our own cost-benefit analysis regarding certain expenses..come to think of it. Yes, I really really want this apartment, but if I can't afford to eat or go on any trips, is it worth it? I think not.

They are probably trying to figure out what tv shows they can afford and which they can't. All the networks are playing this game. Sigh. This is why it is a good idea not to become too fannish about tv shows...particularly cult tv shows.

Oh dear, I'm afraid I have no control over my heart/fannish love with regard to cult TV shows! I can't help but try to see if they are any good, and if they grab me then I'm head over heels (and doomed to being heart broken if it is cancelled). But all in all I'd still rather have Joss make 13 episodes of a show that is cancelled than never make anything at all!
