Poll Results
May. 30th, 2010 04:54 pmYesterday during lunch with CW and G, CW commented that she'd never read my blog. To which I responded that it would be a little hard for her to read it - since I don't blog under my actual name and she'd have trouble finding me, unless I sent her the link. Which I haven't done..for a lot of reasons.
Results of poll...to date. (Not everyone on flist responded to it - so I know for a fact that it's not completely accurate. It should have a higher number of UK, Germany, and at least one person from Greece listed. It also should have a higher number of non-Buffy comics fans. Not to mention more Bones and Lost fans.)
But...that said? I was surprised by the response. It put me into a good mood. Because after I posted the thing on Thursday night - I was convinced that no one would respond or at the most maybe 10 people would. Very happy to be wrong about that. This may be the most popular poll that I've done - 91 respondents to date. Not bad. I'm usually lucky if I get 30.
Anyhow - some of the responses on where people were residing greatly amused me. Apparently there are people residing in two places at the same time. Some are off planet and in the US (which would actually explain a lot.) And there were people who are residing in two countries - which are separated by an ocean. Such as Spain and South America. That's a feat.
Here's the results:
1. 12% of the respondents are enjoying the Buffy comics. (The majority either hasn't read them, is holding out for Whedon's last five issues before stating an opinion, or is not enjoying them.)
2. 8% would rec them to someone else.
3. 7% liked issues 34 and 35. [Don't make assumptions about the folks who liked them. I looked at the respondents and can more or less tell you for a fact that they aren't all Bangle shippers.] The vast majority disliked these issues or are holding out for the last five issues of the series to state an opinion. [Again I wouldn't make assumptions about this group either.]
So if you like the Buffy comics and liked issues 34/35 and would rec the comics to others?
Then you are in the misunderstood minority. And can whine about it all you want.
3. TV shows...
No real surprises here...except that I'm guessing I should write more essays on Doctor Who..which may well happen now that River Song has returned, and Stephen Moffat is show-runner.
* Doctor Who - got 59.8% of the vote of most enjoyed tv show. And 60% of the vote for most rec'd tv series. (You guys really love Doctor Who, don't you?)
* Glee was the second most watched tv series - with 48.8% of the vote.
* Being Human was the most hilghly rec'd next to Dr. Who, with 43%, and third most highly watched with 43%.
[So the new cult hits are Glee, Doctor Who and Being Human]
* True Blood beat out Being Human as the most watched/enjoyed tv series. But came in third as most rec'd. [It completely beat out Vampire Diairies - which makes me curious about S2]
The other most rec'd/watched shows were:
1. Castle (beat out Bones by a huge margin, which makes sense to me - the leads are more likable, but I can't seem to stay with either...possibly because I got burnt out on the format - which isn't Castle or Bones fault, but mine for binging on the genre with other tv shows until I can't watch it any longer.)
2. Dexter ( the only show that has a serial killer that I'll actually watch - because it is so character driven and have a delightfully satiric wit. Adore that show. I have a rule, if it involves serial killers - I won't watch. Another thing I got burned out on.)
3. House
4. Mad Men
5. LOST
[Hmmm...almost all are male centric tv shows...interesting. And yes, I've watched or do watch all of them.]
Shows that did not appear on poll but rec'd in the comments - which means someone cared enough about them to actually post a comment and mention the tv show - so you should, I guess, take notice of that:
1. Caprica (no clue why I forgot it - maybe because it finished first season way back in March and I forgot it? shrugs)
2. Leverage (see Caprica)
3. Medium
4. The Sarah Connor Chronicles (which is over and on DVD, but if you missed it - go and rent on netflix)
5. Chuck
6. Burn Notice
7. The Deadliest Catch - due to how it portrays Crab Fisherman. (Not an occupation I'd want)
8. Merlin (see Caprica - it's still on, but I forgot to list it.)
And I'm sure I missed something.
Surprisingly - only 24% of the respondents read Jim Butcher novels - which means they are all on my flist and writing posts on him. Because I had to skip over quite a few posts to not get spoiled. [Note - not everyone who responded is on my flist. Nor did everyone on my flist take the poll.]
100% of the respondents read fanfic. Hee. While at least 60% writes it. [Good to know.]
[Aside: Apparently fracking is a real word - has to do with pollution in water. Who knew?]
56% of the respondents are single. (YAY, feel less alone!)
25% aren't residing on planet earth (LOL!)
75% are residing in the USA (although most of those guys also said they weren't residing on planet earth - so that percentage may be up in the air)
One person is residing in Saudia Arabia - which surprised me. And I think is cool.
One is dividing their time between Iceland, the US and possibly another planet.
25% live in the UK, but more live in Canada (yet not as many as I thought - only 10 people)
3 in France and 3 in Germany.
Regarding May/Dec romances? 30% are all for it - hey, it's love right? 20% don't get it, but believe in live and let live (which was my vote), and 22% think it depends on the situation.
This is one of those category that has a lot to do with real life experiences and the struggle not to generalize based on them. I think it is almost impossible not to generalize - we are taught to do it, after all.

Date: 2010-06-02 12:48 am (UTC)My guess is that sometime during the 20th Century - where shows like Bones and Castle were all the rage - I swear A&E alone had one on each night, I got burned out on them. It's not unlike my sitch with candy bars. In the 1996-2002, I had a york peppermint patty each day, I was addicted to them. Until one day - I got sick. Now I can't eat them anymore. Same deal with M&M's - I ate a ton while studying for the bar - now they make me ill. In the 80s and 90s - I was addicted to shows like Remington Steel, Moonlighting, Prime Suspect (American and British versions),
Profiler, and a lot of others that I've forgotten the names of - until I finally reached a point that I can't watch them anymore.
Five minutes in? I know the plot. The character arcs. Exactly what will happen next. And I'm soooo bored that I flip channels.
And, sigh, Nathan Fillion/Boreanze have nothing on Bruce Willis and Pierce Bronsen, and Emily Deschanel/Kate Beckett - have zip on Stephanie Zimbalest and Cybil Shepard. They just don't make these shows as good as they used to. ;-)
