Last minute ramble before I leave...

Off on vacation tomorrow - no internet access until next Wed. So, am taking a vacate from NYC, Farscape, My home, Jerry, Work, and the internet. As boss kindly put it - a well-deserved one. Also get to spend it with the folks, who I adore, and are getting older - as I am, annoying that, which means I won't have them for that much longer and want to take advantage of the time I have. I've learned in life not to take ANYTHING for granted. Here today, gone tomorrow. As they sing in Avenue Que - it's all temporary, well except for death and taxes that is.
Can't get into Warehouse 13 - not that I've actually tried. But it just doesn't look appealing. Backing up a bit - it has zip to do with Warehouse 13 and more to do with what it is about or formula structure of it - male/female team with chemistry, hunting monsters and strange things, with an alien/government conspiracy. I didn't like The X-Files. Couldn't watch the new V. And was sort of bored by Invasion. I think I'm the only person on lj that was not a fan of X-Files. It's just not my cup of tea. I guess if I had more time and less tv shows that I was watching, maybe. Have more or less given up Burn Notice. But...I'm still watching LEVERAGE with the fantastic Timothy Hutton in the lead role, and Royal Pains, Covert Affairs,
Eureka (more or less - it still feels like the actors are working underwater...they are so subdued), Doctor Who (best of the bunch), Being Human S2 (which will pop up once Doctor Who ends), and S2 True Blood via DVD - when I get back from vacation. Also have Persons Unknown saved on DVR, along with Friday Night Lights (amazing - best written and acted series on, basically makes Mad Men look tame by comparison).
Not really watching much outside of Farscape of late. The vacation may wean me off it. Every time I watch Farscape - I get insanely obsessed with it. What can I say, it hits all my kinks, HARD. I'm very glad I was not watching it when it was actually on - or I'd have been writing letter campagins to the stupid networks to renew the thing. Shame is that no one is really writing anything interesting on it. The fandom such that it is - seems to have disbanded. People have moved on - because there is no new content. The only reason Star Trek and Buffy have fandoms that have survived is the creators are providing new content. Sure Rockne S. O'Bannon is writing comics - but unlike Buffy, the Farscape fandom doesn't think of O'Bannon as the sole person behind the series which uhm, would sort of make them a bit less stoned or more awake than Buffy fans - wouldn't it, either that or they tried the comics and got disillusioned a lot faster. Most likely the later. TV shows to comics rarely works. The only TV show to comic that I liked was Firefly - possibly because it wasn't on tv long enough to make that much of an impression one way or another. Dollhouse also might work better as a comic book than Buffy, for somewhat the same reasons - wasn't on tv long enough to make an impression. Dollhouse got what?
22 episodes? Sure it had two seasons, but the first one was 13 episodes long (12 actually, with the 13th only available on DVD), and the second - also 13 episodes long. That's the equivalent of two seasons of Doctor Who. Compare to Farscape which had 4 seasons, each 22-24 episodes long. And Buffy with 7, and 22 episodes long, except for Season 1, which was maybe 13-15.
Prime Minister of UK is in NYC this week. So is Obama for that matter. This may explain why I was less than impressed when Momster told me Obama was in Bar Harbor last weekend while they were up there. I've gotten used to heads of state hob-nobbing where I live. The British Prime Minister and the US Pres are basically stepping on egg-shells around each other - due to the BP fiasco, which just gets weirder as we go. Now Americans are blaming BP for getting the bomber of the Lockerbie Flight released. (The guy was dying of cancer people...okay allegedly dying, but still. He's paying for it. Let it go.) Personally, I have little tolerance for the blame game, yeah, yeah, BP screwed up royally, but they are trying to fix it and they are paying for it. What do you want? Let's put restrictions in place, clean up the mess, compensate the poor souls hurt, and make sure it doesn't happen again. Crucifying BP isn't going to help anyone. People need to get over their need for vengence and stop confusing it with justice. Ain't the same thing.
Aren't you happy I'm going on vacation, finally?? ;-) Was told by Momster - that I'd have to turn off my kindle during take off and landing - a big difference with a book. You don't have to turn off books! But just don't have room for a book too.
