Aug. 1st, 2010 05:36 pmSpent most of the day convalescing and reading. Feel much better as a result. And I managed to find not one but three well written Aery/Crichton Farscape fanfics. Gotta love the internet - if you are a voracious reader/writer - it's basically like crack or an endless free candy store of content and content creation opportunities. Professional writers must hate it, as do professional publishers - I'd imagine. Hee. Which makes me love it all the more.
In case you are at all interested (not sure there are any fans of Farscape reading my lj or shippers of Aern/Crichton) - here's the site:

The best are:
1. Pretty in Punk - which is possibly the best story I've read to date about a family making their way in space. It has excellent world-building, delves into the politics of the world,
covers what happened in the series, sticks to the canon of the original series fairly closely - while adding texture, and discusses the dicey topic of childbearing. The writing is also quite good. Excellent use of vocabulary and syntex. Plus a good exploration of the Aeryn/Crichton relationship post Moya, post Peacekeeper Wars, and as parents. (And I usually hate these types of stories, but this one really works well. A good writer can basically make anything work.)
2. Obsidian Spirits - a what-if tale that occurs between S4 and Peacekeeper Wars, about Crichton and his dead twin. It is so close to what occurs in the series, that I can see it happening and if it did, it explains certain gaps in the last part of S4 and in Wars.
3. Lesser Evils - quite angsty, explores what would happen if Aeryn had to choose between her child and John Crichton.
In other news, have become rather bored of Lobster Chronicles and need something a bit more action packed to hold my attention. So may drift back to George RR Martin and read Storm of Swords. I've read the first two novels in the Song of Ice and Fire series, just not the last two - and yes I own both. Figured there's no rush, since the other still hasn't published the last volumn. On the fence about ordering HBO just to see the series - thinking makes more sense to rent via netflix like I've been doing for True Blood, Weeds, and Dexter. And shortly for The Wire and Big Love.
