1.Insane TV Salaries To Make You Say Huh? This from [livejournal.com profile] wisteria which concerns the insane salaries that tv actors and commentators receive. And yes, they are insane. Actors in procedural shows and suprisingly enough, Elliot Spitzer (you remember the NY Governor who used public funds to pay for sex, while he was prosecuting other people for doing the same thing - nah, we're not a nation of shallow hypocrites), actually make more than the president of the united states, governors, teachers, firemen, people defusing bombs in Iraq, and airplane pilots. This is our fault folks. Blame ourselves. (Spitzer is making $500,000, Hugh Laurie - 400,000 per episode, Charlie Sheen - 1.2 million or is that 2.1 million per episode, and David Boreanze (who has made quite a living out of looking either constipated or gleeful) is making $200,000 an episode. The women are notably making much less. Jane Lynch of Glee is only making 50,000 per episode. Yes the world is not fair, it is merely capitalistic and run by insane popular opinion.

2. Okay, what's up with all the postings about IDW losing the Angel Series license to Dark Horse? What's this mean? Is it true? Are they just letting Dark Horse borrow the characters for a bit?? How did it happen? Is it just gossip? Is Lynch not doing Spike anymore (because that would sort of suck - I really don't care about any of the other comics, just the Lynch Spike comics. He's going to do a Dru/Spike reunion, and a Willow/Spike reunion.)

3. The Mosque War continues in NYC. The latest? David Patterson, our esteemed if somewhat hapless governor, has decided that maybe we should just move the Mosque across town or to a different location. Yeah, that's a swell idea - except for the 100s of Muslims who work and live in the area who were sort of hoping for a place to quietly pray and congregate like normal people. They are currently doing this in noisy basements. Sure, we're all for freedom of religion, just as long as it is our own religion that is getting all the freedom. Really, don't want that other guy getting any freedom - he looks disreputable. Sigh, neo-conservative Libertarians...they want the right to poop in your pool, but they throw a regular hissy fit if you poop in theirs.

4. Pakistan is drowning literally. While Moscow is literally burning. Hope the folks on my flist that are located near or in either place are okay? You are, right? I vaguely remember seeing folks list Pakistan and Russia, specifically Moscow, the last time I did a where are you living poll. Did read in the paper this morning that Moscow will drop to the 70s Farenheit or the 20s C this week. They've been in 40s C or 100s Farenheit. This is Moscow folks. It doesn't normally get that hot up there. Yet another sign of Global Warming. And Pakistan is covered in water, with over half the population starving and in dire need of shelter and assistance. Ripe for the Taliban. (This is why I don't watch the news, there's zip I can do here, except donate money and from last reports - aid is slow in arriving.)

5. Despite what the Metro and you all may think - I actually am interested in UK and Canadian politics, for that matter, granted have no time to read up on them but still... It's actually more entertaining than US politics, which gives me a headache. Much rather analyze Cameron's mistakes than Obama's thank you very much, particularly since I don't have any issues with Obama - he's doing more or less what I thought he'd do. He's a pragmaticist - that's why I voted for him. He's not going to change the world or even US politics for that matter - he got elected President, people, not God. Get a grip. No one person can change politics or even government for that matter - it's not possible.

#2 Official announcement links (http://whedonesque.com/comments/24649). Lynch will be doing the SPIKE series at least through the end of 2011. It's unclear if it will continue once the ANGEL title returns to DH.

The impression I get from the articles is that both Angel and Spike will be ending with storylines designed to end with the characters' appearances in the Dark Horse Buffy.

But IDW lost me when they decided that Willingham was a suitable writer for Angel. I just hope Lynch does some more at Dark Horse.

But IDW lost me when they decided that Willingham was a suitable writer for Angel.

Your assessment of Willingham way back in 2009/2008 when it was initially announced that he was taking over the Angel series - was on target. Kudos! I admittedly thought he'd be okay initially, couldn't be more wrong. Figured that out after I tried the first two issues.

Outside of Brian Lynch and Peter David (Only Human), IDW has done a bad job of picking writers for this series. Kelley Armstrong - a gothic romance novelist specializing in Angels for a gothic "noir" horror series? Granted at least Armstrong was a "fan" of the Angel series. Willingham, while he does tend to write noirish fantasy/horror stories, didn't even bother to watch the tv show - well outside a few episodes here and there.
Curious? Is it really that hard to find well-known, appealing, and qualified comic book writers for this series?

I just hope Lynch does some more at Dark Horse.

Me too. Could we have Lynch take over the co-plotting/writing duties for S9? I also wish Dark Horse would inherit some of IDW's artists - Nick Runge and Frank Urru are preferable to Jeanty's bubble-gum art in my opinion. But I know mileage varies. I'm going to miss Urru.

Although, I guess the good news is (that is for anyone who still cares), we may at least get some idea of how Whedon would resolve all of these characters arcs. And I admittedly would like to see how Illyria and Connor could be referenced in the Buffy comics.

It shocks me the number of really famous people that David Boreanaz makes more money than.

Yeah DH is taking over the AtS comics. It's not a rumor. Both DH and IDW have now issues statements. Apparently they're going to do one last AtS arc on IDW and finish up the Spike comic. DH gets the franchise(though I may have details wrong.) [livejournal.com profile] fenderlove has more info).

I have no quarrel w/actors on really popular (highly rated) TV shows getting huge salaries: if the producers are getting obscene amounts of money then the actors deserve a cut! Of course I also believe the writers and all those who work on the show deserve a cut, but lets face it: the producers are only willing to share w/the actors because they believe that the gravy train would stop without the actors (they mistakenly believe that writers & others are interchangeable).

The Mosque war is just a made up scare tactic for the mid-term elections... all objections will go away in the second week of November. Of course by then Muslims will have been victimized and insulted and marginalized all for a political stunt. US politics stink.

Over at Whedonesque they have a huge long thread speculating about the move of Angel from IDW to Dark Horse, and now they have another thread discussing the actual announcements. The only part I care about it how this will effect Brian Lynch's SPIKE series (it was supposed to run for as long as it was popular, but now it looks like it will end after 14 months? That is very disappointing to me). Brian Lynch isn't posting about it, not at Whedonesque and not a tweet on Twitter.

1. It's probably worth noting that the highly paid actors on that list are also executive producers of their shows. (Pay close attention to the opening credits the next time you watch your favorite tv series.) In addition, it's a little known fact that in TV a popular actor often makes triple the amount per year that a studio executive or network executive does. Just because some is the head honcho, doesn't necessarily mean they make the most money - even if common sense dictates they should.

2. Hmmm...Maybe the Mosque War is made up by the politicians in Iowa. But it's not in NYC where it is ACTUALLY taking place and not made up at all. A bit of history - the war or fight or whatever you wish to call it has been going on for about a year now. The group that is upset about it - is a special interest group heavily involved with the memorial at Ground Zero, known as the survivors/victims of 9/11 (can't remember their official name and no time to look it up)but they are a whiny bunch. They thought they won the battle because the location the developers wanted to build the Mosque on was a "historic site" but the historic landmark commission and city zoning agency okayed the site for development and stated it wasn't historic and that it wasn't necessary to rebuild the Burlington Coat Factory to preserve historic integrity. So they attempted to appeal this. A couple of local Firemen and police added their voices to fight, which local media outlets picked up on. And... that's when Mayor Bloomberg got involved - stating that building the Mosque there was a good idea and a bridge builder, then Senator Al D'Amato and a bunch of other conservatives felt the need to voice their disagreement, and it all went down hill from there - hitting the National News. But up until Bloomberg - it was really just one of our many verbal slug-fests over what is going on with Ground Zero and the surrounding area. These are not made-up wars by politicians. They actually do exist and there are definitive winners and losers. The current plan on the table is to move it elsewhere. And no, it's unlikely to just disappear after the mid-term elections, since the special interest groups that have been waging war over it don't give a rat's ass what the politicians think..they care about the Mosque! Although I suspect it will most likely disappear in the rest of the country.

3. Brian Lynch isn't posting about it, not at Whedonesque and not a tweet on Twitter.

Smart man.

Actually the Iowa news people have had zero interest in the NYC Mosques (or any other Mosques for that matter), all my information (such as it is) has come from Keith Olbermann and Jon Stewart.... They have been mostly making fun of Fox Cable New's coverage of the subject, which is where I got the impression it was just politics (and probably Fox Cable News will lose interest after the election).

Brian Lynch did do one tweet: http://twitter.com/BrianLynch/status/21620494962
"Who gets custody of Betta George?"
lol

Well that explains it. The problem with about 80% of the country is they don't have a reliable source of information outside of the newspaper and possibly the Associate Press - I highly recommend Fact-Checker.com and Associated Press Syndicate - if you want to know what is actually happening. CNN doesn't report the news anymore - it editorializes. News as entertainment. Same with Fox (sigh *cough*Murdoch*cough* the tabloid king of Australia), and ABC, NBC, and CBS aren't much better. Oblierman and Stewart are not reliable sources of information. Oblierman's sole function in life is to snark at Bill O'Reilly (not that O'Reilly doesn't deserve it) and Stewart is just a comedian. They've basically taken Al Franken's place in the media world.

If you want reliable reporting, without all the editorializing,
try the associated press and/or BBC World News.

I'm admittedly lucky since I live in the information capital of the world. We have about 40 newspapers. Each morning I pick up the Metro for free - it's basically just Associated Press reports, with a couple of editorials and letters. But very few. And NY1 which is a 24 hour local and national news channel that rarely if ever editorializes, and when they do? They state so. It's the most factual news reporting available at the moment outside of print.

I never take anything at face value, I double check. The Mosque Wars have hit all the new york papers. I've been watching the updates on Inside City Hall on NY1, the NY1 news, and in the associated press's impartial and somewhat ambivalent reports.
They've been doing a good job of showing both sides of it.

Regarding Brian Lynch? I repeat, smart man. Also quite funny.
Granted he pisses off fans, but hey, who doesn't?

Yeah, you're right: Keith Olbermann and Jon Stewart are unreliable sources for news...
but my experience during the last election was that AP (Assoc Press) was also presenting biased news... and I don't get BBC America.

The local papers in Iowa are some of the worst in the country (which is really saying something because there are a lot of bad newspapers).

Recently I was in Washington, DC and it was so pleasurable to get to read the Washington Post again (I love that paper!). *sigh*

Oh well... I will resign myself to being occasionally uninformed, and accept that fact that I had better not argue my ignorance dogmatically!
