Just came back from seeing the flick Burlesque with Momster, who I think enjoyed it more than I did.

Fun musical numbers, cliche plot with little dramatic resonance. Also never realized how closely Cher and Christine Aguilerre's voices resemble each other. I rather adore a smokey female tenor, the high soprano - not so much. And Aguilerre's voice has always blown me away. This petite pretty blond, with a deep tenor that can hit an octave. Whoa. But the dialogue and plot needed some tinkering. Along with the direction. We had the feeling they cut out a lot of story to put in more numbers - which isn't an issue, because the numbers made the movie.

As far as the story goes? It's your typical affair - wide-eyed hopeful from the sticks comes to the big city, wants to land great dance/singing gig - convinces owner of the club, which happens to be in financial trouble to give her a shot. Finally gets her shot, and wows everyone with how brilliant she is - then, manages to save the club from financial ruine. With a sweet romance and a bitchy rival thrown in. Reminded me a little of both Chicago and Flashdance - except they have hummable songs and are a bit more fun plot wise.

It's not awful, worth a rental I suspect. And it was a fun - if you like raunchy musical numbers which I do (not Fosse, but close enough). Plus no sniffling, sneezing, coughing etc. Which was a nice change of pace, and making me wonder about my allergies.

Weatherwise? It's cool here not cold. Fifties and Forties, mostly. Sunny today. Rainy yesterday.
And I'm basically just kicking back and enjoying cultural pursuits.

Well I'm thinking I'll give Burlesque a pass (it'll be on TV for free someday I'm sure)...
but last night I saw Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader which I thought was the best of the Narnia movies (okay, they haven't been brilliant, but this one was quite a bit of fun, and it was based on my favorite of the Narnia books). Eustace was very funny and the special effects were stellar.

I wish I had your weather here... it has been in the 20s F for the last week or more without let up, and my furnace is feeling the strain... I cannot wait until I can escape for California in January!

Have a Merry Christmas (my brother will arrive on the 23rd and we'll celebrate here).

It's been a lot colder than usual down here. Normally it's in the 60s and 70s, but the past week it's been in the 40s and 50s. Better for my persistent cough than the 20s and 30s that we were having in NYC. Before, I came down - 20s and 30s here - which is weird.

Have a great Xmas too. Glad to hear your brother's coming down to spend it with you.

it was funny, today the temperature went all the way up to 39 degrees F and it felt like Springtime! lol
It makes such a difference to get above freezing after so much time in subfreezing temperatures.

but I think it'll snow tonight or tomorrow (that is how it goes, if it warms up then it snows)

I'm looking forward to my brother getting here, I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun (a lot of watching DVDs and going out to eat)

Yep, except I was disappointed that it wasn't better. I find Showgirls unwatchable. Hee.
