Anyone know how to read an AVI DVD on an US DVD player? I know nothing about tech stuff of this sort, I'm proud of being able to figure out financial databases. AVI vs. whatever DVD's that are sold in the US which my Sony can play are beyond me. Also as an aside, you'd think the DVD players in the US would be able to play the same DVDs sold elsewhere in the world and vice versa? This makes no sense to me.

[Frustrated - because I can't watch the Misfit DVDs - because they AVI and AVI isn't compatible with my DVD player or the DVD player in my computer - yes, I tried both.]

Arg, sorry they are not working with your DVD player! It has nothing to do with region though, .avi is normally a computer format, but lately some DVD players can read those (and .mp4 .xvid or other formats).

It should work out with your computer though hopefully. Like the other folks I recommend the VCL player, it's freeware and it plays absolutely everything (also it's the one I test-played the files with).

I apparently bought the one DVD player that can't read it. I think the old one I had could - but the new one is more rudimentary and cheaper, because it's basically a stand-in until I can get a fancier model.

Have downloaded the link provided above...it may work and I'll try them on the computer.

Thanks for sending them, not your fault my DVD player can't handle it. ;-)
